Due to a great job offer I couldn't turn down I had to cancel an upcoming trip to Disney. This pushed the points into reservation status. I am going to use the points to book a WDW Disney hotel but not a DVC resort as the points cannot be used there and the booking is not in the last 4 months of my use year. Can DVC members staying on points at a non dvc resort buy the dining plan?? TVM:goodvibes

Confused, you should be able to use your points at a DVC resort, you just cannot book the resort further then 4 months in advance.

I believe you can add the dining plan. You are going to get hit with a $95 reservation fee if you book at WDW.

DCA is half gutted right now and the DL hotel is being refurbed so I really feel we are not getting our money's worth by going there. I just have to suck it up and pay the 95 bucks. At least we still get a trip out of it:goodvibes :thanks:

No, I don't think you can add the DP for stays at non-DVC resorts using points.

If you cancelled less than 31 days out, those points are in holding status. Anytime you use points for non-DVC Disney stays, they become reservation points automatically. So I guess you cancelled that non-DVC Disney stay and now have to use them as reservation points before they expire at the end of your UY. I think I understand your post now. Duh - me.

The trip was planned for October. I am still taking a trip to Palm Springs but not Disneyland now as the PS trip does not require me to take time off from my new job. I have an October UY. I did cancel more than 31 days out however I used remaining '09 points and borrowed from '10 to go. According to MS I can only book something from the Disney collection and the last 4 months thing. It does not leave me with a lot of choices since I want to re-book at WDW instead of Disneyland. :goodvibes

"The last four month thing" does not apply. When you booked the DL stay, the points became reservation points at that time. In the event of a cancellation, those points would not be good for a DVC resort stay or for a trade via RCI or the Lake Buena Vista Trading Company. At the time you originally booked, DVC arranged to send the equivalent number of DVC resort nights to CRO to pay for your DL stay. The restriction on booking a non-DVC resort in the last 4 months of your use year does not apply to the points returned to your account when you cancel a stay made with the reservation points.

The reservation points will expire at the end of your use year. You will have to pay a $95 fee when you book the non-DVC reservation unless you decide to stay at one of the DL resorts where the fee does not apply.

And as others have already posted, you can now get the dining plan at the non-DVC WDW resorts if you have MS add it to the reservation at least 48 hours prior to arrival.
