How can I find out how many points I would need to rent to stay at a mod or deluxe resort over a weekend? Thank you!

Before considering renting a non-DVC mod or deluxe room from a DVC member (especially for weekends) be sure to know what the same accommodation would cost thru CRO directly. In many cases a stay at a DVC resort in a 1BR will be fewer points than a mod and a lot less than a deluxe resort.

In Value season, a weekend nite at the GF in a Garden View room would be 74 points per night and 89 points for a Lagoon View (also per night).

Regular Season points for those rooms would be 85/102 and in Peak Season it goes up to 98/118 - all per night.

A stay at any of the moderate resorts would be 30/33, 33/35, 35/39, 39/44 and 41/46 for Value, Regular, Summer, Peak and Holiday Seasons.

A 1BR at OKW on weekends will range from 40-73 points - for a room more than twice the size of the largest Deluxe room.

Even at $10 per point, a stay in a Deluxe room will cost far more thru a DVC member than thru CRO.

Weeknights can be a better value but even there the DVC resort will be much less costly.

Just be sure to do the math before entering into any rental agreement.

Here's the point chart for the WDW hotels in the Disney Collection:

. . . and for comparison, here's the points chart for BCV:

http://advc.disney.go.com/media/dvc_v0302/languagespecific/eng/member/vacationplanning/pointscharts/PointsChart_DVC_DisneysBeachClubVillas.pdf

I used BCV as an example as any other WDW DVC resort is going to cost similar or slightly less points to stay at.

You will find that staying in a DVC resort on points (such as BCV), will be a lot less points than staying on points through the Disney Collection.

In addition to the advice above, keep in mind not only will you pay a higher price to stay at those resorts on points, you will also pay a $95 exchange fee to do so.

And if you, for some reason, cancel after the owner makes the reservation, that owner is now stuck with points in reservaton status that can not be used at DVC resorts, only within the Disney collection.

Thank you, everyone, for all of the information you provided. It has been very helpful.
