Does anyone know if you can get married on property (at a resort not in a park) with an officiant that is not Disney-affiliated? Or know anyone who has done this? My dad is wanting to get married down there in 2 weeks and just told me tonight so we're looking for a quick and easy way to do this. They want something simple since it's both of their second marriages.

All weddings on property have to go throught Disney Fairy Tale Weddings, however you are welcome to use any officiant you want. They do count as one of your guests though. LurkyLoo's trip report mentiones her officient who was her DH's childhood pastor.

but I bet he could get married in his hotel room. I don't know how many guests will be there, I assume not very many since it is so short notice. I would have an officiant do the ceremony in the hotel room, and have ressies at a nice TS restaurant for everyone afterwards.

please note that an in room ceremony or any ceremony that does not go through DFTW department is not allowed by Disney and they can choose to evict you from the property if they find out. I'm sure it does happen without any consequences but I would not want to risk it.

What about going to a local courthouse in Orlando and having a simple civil ceremony and then celebrating with a dinner afterwards?

if I gave bad information. I did not know that it was against the rules to have a little ceremony in your own room. I have read that some people have done this at the WDW Swan, but maybe they were going against policy too! It seems weird to me that they (Disney) can enforce this in your room. It seems to me that what you do in your room is no ones business, as long as you are not disturbing other guests or breaking a law. But, thats just me!

it's okay scanmom, you didn't know :). I'm sure it probably is done and no one has any problems, after all how would they really know. The only resort where I think they could possibly find out would be AKL since the Savannah view room balconies are under video surveillance to ensure that guests don't throw things in the Savannah or anything like that. There is even a warning to draw your curtains for privacy. ;)
