I'm going to a convention in Disney this summer, another family who would like to attend but thinks the convention rate we are getting at CSR is to high was wondering what other hotels might be available. She has a dd in a wheel chair, does anybody have any suggestions for an off site hotel that might have good rates and be able to handle a handicap request for a first floor room?

nice to see you zurgswife:wave:
I don't have any suggestions since we are DVC members.
Since all hotels are required to have handicapped accessible rooms, she should be able to find that. One question will be whether they have one available when she arrives.
Another question will be how to get to the parks/convention site. Many of the off-site hotels have shuttle buses that go to the parks, but some don't have a very good schedule. Being able to get a wheelchair accessible shuttle had been a problem for some people who stay off-site. If the hotel provides a shuttle for guests without wheelchairs, they are obligated to provide one for people with wheelchairs too. How convenient that is will vary.
If the DD can get out of her wheelchair and put it into a car, the transportation won't be a problem. But, if they have to rent a car, the money they saved by staying off-site may be used to pay for a car.

The are planning on driving so the issue to and from CSR won't be an issue. Though I believe the time spent would be worth staying at CSR but that is just my opinion.

I guess I just need to find a cheap, clean hotel....thanks. I'm DVC too so that is why non Disney hotels send me for a loop.

Why not look at the Disney web site and see what is available. This may sound strange, but sometimes the convention rate is not the lowest rate offered.

A couple of years ago I was involved in running a convention held at CSR. Three weeks before it looked as if we would note even come close to hitting the 150 minimum room night guarantee. However, I made sure that there was a clause in our contract that said that no matter what rate people reserved at we would get credit. I then gave our contact our list with names and city/state of all attendees and suddenly our bock usage jumped to over 210 room nights. We had over 80 room nights at less than the contracted price.

That's a good suggestion.
I have also been to conferences where the conference rate was not the lowest offered. I had forgotten about that until you mentioned it.

I'm going to the same convention as Zurgswife and the conference is being held during a time frame for the 4/3 deal. If they are staying 7 nights it is worth it for them to check the WDW hotels (I think CSR is booked for the conference time frame though) for that deal. Maybe one of the All Stars or Pop?

I would trust the hotels that advertise on the Disboards and the ones at Mousesavers (her preferred hotels). We stayed once at the Comfort Inn in LBV and I can't say much for the hotel except that it was cheap and safe and in a great location. It is spread out and not tall (5 floors) so probably a lot of first floor rooms.

Carol,

I was definitely going to suggest a value first. I took a look at Mousesavers and a few have prices less then the CSR. I can't believe that they already sold out our block at CSR. That means there are alot of people coming again. That is awesome.

She is not going to the parks at all if much so the 4 for 3 deal really makes it a little more expensive I think.

Thanks for the suggestions.

PS are you arriving prior to the convention or staying after. We arrive at BWV on July 2.

Ah...I'm not sure if the convention block is sold out yet but CSR is sold out for the 4/3 deal last I checked.

We are arriving on Tuesday and the plan now is to move over to BC on Saturday and stay there for 7 nights on the 4/3 deal. If the money doesn't hold out we'll stay at CSR from July 7th until the 15th and come home then. Either way I'm really looking forward to it!:goodvibes I've never stayed at any of the Epcot hotels.

Can they do Priceline or Hotwire and request a handicapped room?
