NON Corona Virus Question about Waitlisting

Hi All. I have a general question about advice for a waitlist strategy. I currently have a reservation that I need the first day to be added. So I have a waitlist for all Five nights and have it set to replace the 4 nights I have secured in a booking. Is this the best way or should I simply waitlist that ONE night? I am trying to get two rooms, same day at the same resort and have both rooms booked with only 4 of the 5 nights. Just trying to maximize my best bet. I guess my real question is if DVC when fulfilling the waitlist already knows I have 4 of the 5 days on the reservation I show to replace or are they trying to fill all five nights at once. If thats the case I guess I should just waitlist the one night right? Thank you for any advice. I know this is a stressful time for everyone trying to make adjustments around this virus mess.

You are better off wait listing only the night needed.

The wait list process doesn't take into consideration what you already have booked. Your current wait list requires that ALL FIVE NIGHTS to become available.

Thank you Michael !! Thats what I thought so thanks for the confirmation!! Though I just read on another post that someone was getting "texted" that a room opened up while they were sleeping but the WL didn't come through. First how is someone getting texted that a room you want opens up and Second, when is your waitlist matched against the system. I know I am stalking right now to get my dates and already have grabbed all but the first days by doing this but is a WL always being checked against availability??

Thanks again for responding!

There is a 3rd party website that will continually check for availability and alert you if a match is found.

DVC has been pretty vague on how the wait list process really works. They have alluded that all cancellations are matched against active wait lists, but it's really difficult to know if that actually happens or not. The actual matching process is reportedly automated, but a CM has to manually complete the process to create the actual reservation.

Thank you! I just changed it to just be for the night we need. Ill do some research about the third party website. Appreciate
