Was just reading on the boards before I call it a night, and came across the Christian thread. NO problem here. The OP said no bashing, and I thought, "Why would I bash, its a free country!" :) Just got me to Thinking, are their any non Christians out there?

My hubby is a member of Fishing forum, and he has a few quotes from Mark Twains notebook in his signature that has to do with God and religion, and he gets slammed all the time for it. :confused3 I just don't understand it really. What ever happend to freedom of "having whatever you wanted in your signature?"

I read stuff all the time I don't agree with but I don't pm those people and get all nuts!
:crazy2:

You might want to check out the "Godless Heathens...no bashing please" thread. :)

I don't understand the bashing either. If I read a thread that I think is stupid I just move on. I don't post the same thing 10 ohter posters have already posted. I have never even opened the born again thread, no reason to. They aren't asking for different views only people who agree with them, and they have every right to do that.

I have just never understood the people who want to rain on someones parade. Life is to short to waste it on bashing people you don't know.

Plenty of non-Christian out here, I'm sure. Just because we're not a Christian, doesn't mean we don't have faith / moral. There're plenty of God, as far as I'm concern. It's a free country / world / heaven. Bashing no need to apply, please.
:)

Agreed.

There have been many comments about how the "heathen" thread is rude which I find be quite humorous.

I enjoy reading a good quote. Can you share them with me please? :)

I post there because many are of the opinion that if you don't belong to their brand of relgion you are G-dless,KWIM.. I Know I have G-d,but many would say I'm a heathen

I agree with everything posted here so far. I prefer to keep an open mind, and respect whatever it is that other people choose to believe. Of course, that won't keep me away from a good debate with family and friends! ;)

All religions have one basic principle, Be good to each other.

Well, it could start a riot, my pm box would be full of people calling me names. I've lived both sides. Both my husband and I were in a church for 21 years. Bible college included. My head is full of stuff I wish it wasn't, useless information. But what the hay! Here is a few of my husbands favorite quotes from Mark Twain. I hope no nuclear bombs go off because of this :lmao: But don't say I didn't warn you. If you offend easily, just close the thread, ok.

.God's inhumanity to man makes countless Thousands mourn.

If Christ were here there is one thing he would not be--a Christian.

There has been only one Christian. They caught him and crucified him--early.

- Mark Twain's Notebook

...a God who could make good children as easily a bad, yet preferred to make bad ones; who could have made every one of them happy, yet never made a single happy one; who made them prize their bitter life, yet stingily cut it short; who gave his angels eternal happiness unearned, yet required his other children to earn it; who gave his angels painless lives, yet cursed his other children with biting miseries and maladies of mind and body; who mouths justice, and invented hell--mouths mercy, and invented hell--mouths Golden Rules and foregiveness multiplied by seventy times seven, and invented hell; who mouths morals to other people, and has none himself; who frowns upon crimes, yet commits them all; who created man without invitation, then tries to shuffle the responsibility for man's acts upon man, instead of honorably placing it where it belongs, upon himself; and finally, with altogether divine obtuseness, invites his poor abused slave to worship him!
- No. 44, The Mysterious Stranger Mark Twain

The best minds will tell you that when a man has begotten a child he is morally bound to tenderly care for it, protect it from hurt, shielf it from disease, clothe it, feed it, bear with its waywardness, lay no hand upon it save in kindness and for its own good, and never in any case inflict upon it a wanton cruelty. God's treatment of his earthly children, every day and every night, is the exact opposite of all that, yet those best minds warmly justify these crimes, condone them, excuse them, and indignantly refuse to regard them as crimes at all, when he commits them. Your country and mine is an interesting one, but there is nothing there that is half so interesting as the human mind.

Fellow non-Christian here! :wave2: I'm an atheist.

I don't like to see bashing of Jesus because I respect him as an individual and I respect the sacred beliefs of my friends and neighbors. I am surprised, however, at who qualifies as a Christian these days and the behavior of many people who do terrible things while hiding behind Jesus' message of universal love and peace.

I consider myself a Christian (raised Catholic). I believe in the faith, and I believe in God, but I don't associate myself with a religion because Catholicism has turned me off completely.

So I'm my own breed of Christian. All I know is I believe in God and I pray, and that's good enough for me.

but, it goes against every moral and Christian lesson and belief I have been taught to bash anyone. If someone asks for an opinion, I try to not take a Holier than thou attitude and give what I feel would be a sound answer. I too, do not understand other peoples need to bash anyone, regardless of what the topic is. I am always hesitant to listen to someone who uses their Christianity as a weapon to criticize others and make themselves seen better than anyone else. The Bible states that you should not boast. Those who do, need to study what they preach. Just my opinion.

:sunny: Thanks for sharing. I have never read those before. Looks like Mark Twain had some very interesting things to say.

I don't know what I'm classifying myself as nowadays...in a bit of limbo. I don't believe in God, but I still consider myself a spiritual person. I lean a little towards Wicca, we (well, my mom and I, not dh) celebrate a little on the solstices and equinoxes and such. I really like a lot of the principles of buddhism too.

I heard a really great quote a long time ago about religion and religious wars...It's all so foolish really, all this violence and killing over who has the better imaginary friend!
