Hey everyone,

Our oven is dying.... :scared: and we will need to replace it sooner than later. Cooktop is still great, so I was thinking, I don't use the oven very often during the summer anyway (dont' like to heat up the house) and with baseball and softball schedules it's very hectic. I'm hoping to wait until fall to get a new stove/oven but in the mean time....

I need some NON CHICKEN crock pot recipes if you have them! Many threads on recipes for crock pots, but most if not all have chicken as the main ingredient. Our family really does not eat alot of chicken, and rarely if ever, chicken on the bone. My husband ate alot of chicken growing up and we just don't fix it for meals in our home often. Next in line for 'least favorite' in our house is pork. I like pork, my husband and kids do not. :sad2: I know, I have alot of picky eaters in my house, makes it difficult on momma for menu planning, let me tell ya! :goodvibes

So I'm interested in anything besides chicken that I can throw together in the morning and have ready for after the ball games? Thanks!!

My family doesn't do the chicken thing for the same reason. What I use my crock a lot for is beef tips or cut up round steak with beef broth. Simmer all day and when I get home mix up a gravy with the juices to thicken and we serve over noodles or mashed spuds.

I also have done a dish where you brown burger with onions and celery then add a packet of brown gravyt mix. Put on the bottom of crock and a can of corn cover with a bag of frozen hash browns. Pour a can of cream of mushroom soup on top and cover with cheddar cheese. cook on low all day..makes a pretty good casserloe.

Shredded barb pork for sandwiches is good too.

Two of our family's fav's:

No-Peek Beef Stew
Beef Chuck Roast
Can French Onion Soup (you can use dry, but then I add a little extra wine)
Can Cream of Mushroom Soup
1/2 can Red or Sherry Cooking Wine

Serve over noodles. (You can add carrots/potatoes if you wish)

Sloppy Joe's
1 lb Ground Beef, browned and drained
1 jar Chili Sauce (Heinz)

For each extra pound of beef, add another jar of chili sauce. It's wonderful!

Right now I have a London Broil in there. I put it over a sliced onion, poured a can of Au Jus and ground some black pepper over it. I'll slice it and put it on toasted hero rolls for dinner. Dd has practice and ds has a game so its quick and easy and it can be eaten at different times which is perfect because we won't all be able to eat together tonight.

Another easy one is pulled pork. Just throw a pork roast in with a bottle of BBQ sauce or I use the McCormick pulled pork packet.

Sorry, just noticed your least favorite is pork.

It's ok! I love pulled pork sandwiches, but I can never get them to come out right, mine are always dry which is why my family doesn't really like it. I will try this though, can't goof it up worse than I already have right? :lmao: And around here we can get a pork roast for a decent price at times so will keep my eye out for that.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions, I'm printing them all out and will use them this summer!

Pot Roast

3 to 4 lb. chuck roast
8 oz. fresh mushrooms, sliced
1 package french onion soup mix
3/4 c red wine

Place mushrooms in bottom of crock pot.
Lay chuck roast on mushrooms.
Combine onion soup mix and wine, then pour over roast.
Cook on low for 8 hours.
Goes well with mashed potatoes and/or roasted vegetables.

Pork Ribs

1 rack of baby back ribs
Dry rub of your choice, or just salt and pepper
BBQ Sauce of your choice

Cover both side of the ribs with rub or salt/pepper.
Coil ribs around inner wall of slow cooker.
Cook on low for 9 hours.
Remove from cooker (carefully--they will fall apart), then brush on BBQ Sauce and finish under broiler for 3-5 minutes.

One of my favorites is flat cut brisket...not corned beef.

Just slice up a large onion or two and season the meat with salt and pepper. Put onions on bottom, meat and one bottle Sweet Baby Ray's Bbq Sauce. Let it cook all day. Slice and return to crockpot one hour before serving...meat will then soak up all the juices.

This is true for pulled pork as well. We love McCormick's pulled pork. But...you have to take the meat out, shred and then let it continue to "stew" in the sauce for a while. Other wise the meat is dry.

Sausage, Peppers and Onions are great too.

I like to make shredded beef in the crock pot. It uses very few ingredients:

Chuck or sirloin tip roast
1 can of beef broth
1 can of french onion soup
1 can of beer
a little seasoning salt and pepper

Just cook all day until tender. I like to shred the meat and then put on nice rolls, cover with provolone cheese and put under the broiler for a few minutes. It is very yummy and smells great while it is cooking!

Lots of good ones already posted! I have another method of pulled pork that I read a year or so, somewhere on the DisBoards!

Put a cheap cut (pork butt) in crockpot, fat side down. Pour 1 cup apple cider vinegar over it. That's it. Cook 6-9hrs on Low. Take it out gently (will try to fall apart) and trim off the fat layer. Fork shred the meat, and it's tender and perfect and ready for sandwiches! You can also put it back in the crockpot (after removing the cooking liquid) with your favorite sauce (vinegar based, or thick and sweet) and warm it.

Enjoy!! :goodvibes

You can do the same with beef. I use a brisket.
