Does anyone have experience renting a car from an off site company? I'm seeing rental car companies that you have to take a shuttle from the airport, we are flying into MCO, are there counters at the airport? or signs? where do you ick up said shuttle?

I travel to MCO three or four times a year and there is no way I'd rent from an off-airport company. The horror stories are legend... long, long waits, not enough cars, dirty/questionable vehicles, forcing you to purchase their coverage, etc. I know they are significantly more affordable and some people have had fine experiences, but I am not willing to risk it.

I’m pretty sure Hertz is located at Terminal One.
I only know this because the rental car from Jeep dealership broke down at Starbucks on a Sunday and no nearby Hertz locations are Open on Sundays.
I live in Celebration close to WDW !
So we had to get a tow truck to pick up rental car and take U er to MCO , dropped off at Terminal One went inside the airport and they told us to go across to parking garage to pick up replacement rental car.
They had nice customer service agents but still waited in a line .
Also had a lot of cars available.
You might want to sign up with Hertz for discount or try AAA discount suggestion .

Never think about the process of car breaks down in advance and just assume it will be no problem … Also made me think about how often are these cars actually maintained . I will probably ask them for proof of most recent oil change
I did ask about this but they really just get the car and barely clean them and rent them back out.
But the advertisement makes you think otherwise .

I have but not for a number of years. To me, the marginal extra cost is more than worth not having to take the shuttle and not having as reputable a company. Best case, it goes fine. Worst case, you're out hours of time and lots of money.
Counters in the airport are only for the 10 companies with cars on site at MCO. You catch the rental shuttles outside the doors on level 1 at Terminals A and B. How often the shuttles run and how full they are is completely dependent on the company.

Absolutely nothing about this answers any of the questions asked by the OP. Also, there is no Terminal One at the Orlando International Airport.
