Noise levels in other cabins?

How much, if anything, can you hear of your neighbors in their cabins? Or, even more importantly, can they hear you? I was just wondering how the insulation was. You don't need to wisper or anything do you?

We had connecting rooms, but I have to say, I never heard anything on the other side--I only saw them out on the verandah. They had at least one child around 13 and he was either very quiet, or the rooms were pretty sound proof.

I did, however hear every creek and groan of the ship in the night.

In the Cat 4 there is quite a bit of noise in lowering and raising the bed by the slider. The first cruise wasn't as noisy as this last cruise we were on. The kids were very loud and the bed kept getting *thumped* loudly on the ground. In the morning the bed would *bang* up against the wall. Anyway I think it mostly depends on your neighbor.

On our last cruise, I didn't hear our neighbors, but I could most definitely tell whenever we came into port. We were in Cat 10 cabin on deck 2 and could hear and feel then engines whenever the Disney Wonder was docking. Our cabin just happened to be adjacent to the room where they store all the luggage so it was quite noisey on the last night as the cabin stewards collected all the bags and stowed them for disembarkation. I am usually quite bothered by noise, but somehow being on a Disney Cruise made me much more tolerant. :)

I've found that this depends a lot on your location and the make-up of the rooms around you. In the non-connecting secret porthole rooms, we've noticed a little more noise than in other areas which seems to be due to the fact that the rooms in that area have the pull-down bed and sleep four, which means they typically contain larger families (I think that would be true of any room in that area). We were in an connecting SPR once, and we heard LOTS of noise through the door. I would not stay in a connector again. In 5650, you only have a neighbor on one side and a crew area on the other, and the room next door does not sleep four, so typically we don't hear a peep from our neighbors (one reason I love it there...I don't think there are a lot of rooms with a neighbor on only one side). In other rooms, we've heard muffled talking, but nothing too loud or annoying. A couple of times we've been next door to "bangers" who seemed to get great pleasure out of slamming drawers, doors, etc., but thankfully that's not the norm.
