Noise from WOC fro GCH guests

I'm reading threads from people who talk about how LOUD WOC is for GCH guests. I'm a little worried since we are staying 5 nights there this July. Can anyone who knows the DLR layout and GCH layout tell me if there is a specific part of the hotel that we should request so our little girls can sleep!

As a DVC member, I can tell you that almost all of the rooms affected by WOC are DVC units on the south side of the new addition. If you have a themepark view in a standard room most likely you will be facing east in 50% of the rooms, the there are about 30% of the standard themepark rooms that face south but those are near Soaring over California, and are far enough away to not be affected. There are a small number of Theme park view rooms that are part of the new wing, I would avoid these. Pool views and standard views should not be affected. Tell them when you check in what your concerns are. They will put you in a quiet spot.

Good luck!

Just stayed at a pool view room, 4th floor, kind of overlooking the large hot tub. WOC was very noticeable. Music, booming and rattling. When checking in, if you or family members are sensitive to noise, I'd let the CM know and hopefully they could get you a room farthest from WOC.

We stayed in 4513 facing the pool but it's at the end and we heard it one morning at 6am and then we moved to 2506 and it was a great view of it but if your doors are closed it's no louder then the screaming kids you hear but you can hear it.

FWIW DLR is a noisy place. You will hear the fireworks at DL in your hotel rooms. For grad nights like on June 10, 16, 17 and 24, you will hear fireworks in the middle of the night. If overlooking DTD you will hear noise from DTD guests and musicians.

I am sure some rooms may be less susceptible to WOC noise - but more to Magical fireworks or DTD. Maybe you can find a room quiet from all this - but I suspect the view would be terrible.

I have never stayed at the GCH (next month!) and cannot speak from experience. I just know anywhere around DLR I have stayed has had a certain amount of noise late at night. It is one of the downsides (I guess) of having your hotel so close to the parks. To me the noise is kind of exciting. You know you are close to the "magic".

Some people take earplugs. Others have white noise generators.

We stayed in a room that faced the interior courtyard and it was SO quiet. We didn't hear the fireworks or any DTD noise. I slept like a log at the GCH.

We were just there and had a room that overlooked CA. The night they did a full run through of WoC we opened up the balcony door and watched it. I don't remember it being overly loud. Granted, I wasn't trying to sleep, but it wasn't bad. There was also a grad night while we were there and I didn't hear the fireworks in the middle of the night. I thought overall the VGC were pretty sound proof. It was rare that I heard any noise coming from outside the room. I could hear the "beep beep beep" of the garbage trucks in CA in the morning, but I was already awake. Didn't wake DH or DS up though. maybe we're just sound sleepers??

Actually I am a sound sleeper and so is my youngest. But DH and DD6 wake up easily. I'll probably request a courtyard room then. A little noise is no biggy. I just got a little scared reading how loud it is and since a 10pm show is 1am east coast time....!!!!

We are stayed at GCH over Labor Day and have a theme park view. I would like to be able to see WOC from our balcony. If we have a theme park view, is it pretty much guaranteed to be able to see it from balcony? I had been planning on booking a dining package for WOC to be able to see it but if we can see it from our room, all the better and I will save the dining money! TIA!

As a GCH guest-to-be, I think the answer is "no". "Theme park view" means any partial view of the park, and that could be Grizzly Peak and not Paradise Pier. Further, the new GCV wing has blocked some of the PP views from some of the rooms.

Here is an idea. Look at the hotel layout. Look at the room numbers. Ask questions. And find out which GCH rooms will have a view of PP. Then request some specific room numbers on your reservation. That is what I did.

Further, I did a geeky thing and did a Google search for DCA/GCH photos and looked at the views of the hotel from DCA and of DCA from the hotel to narrow down where I wanted to request a room. And finally, before we actually check in I am going to make my way up to the area of my room request and check the views myself as best I can. Then when I check in I will be better informed. :)

Here are some links I collected that may help:

Is there a lounge at the GCH for guests with a view of WOC?

You will not have a good view from any of the GCH theme park rooms unless you get one of the very few that are mixed in with the VGC rooms. Even so, the view from the VGC rooms is not as good as watching from the viewing area. I'd recommend watching it at least once from inside the park. I think you'd be fine trying for the free show passes or even doing the picnics to get the dining viewing. Even viewing from somewhere around the pier is pretty decent IMO.
