I'm thinking of buying some noise cancelling headphones for DW and myself. Without going into the "sell your right arm into slavery to buy Bose" (I can't justify 2x£275) realms of insanity, can anyone recommend any, and do they do what they say on the box?

I have looked on-line at the Panasonic RP-HC70E-A, which seem to fit the bill.

DS got him self a Boss pair in NY last year

very very happy with them

I would say Richard try them before buying.
I tried various models and in the end when in Florida, bought the Bose QC2's absolutly stunning in how they cancel out the plane noise, plus are fantastic for the Hi fi system as well (and will also fit your MP3 player)
well worth the money.
there is a new version, with a smaller had pad the QC3 but I don't like thiose as much as the QC2's

QC2 are $299, the QC3's are $349 Oh and I also got a Bose portable cd player for free with the heads

dh has the Bose 2 and loves them. I bought some JVC ones (not sure of model number) a couple of years ago on the way out at duty free for about £60 and also love them. An amazing noise reduction on the plane - much less stressful!

I have no advice but I think these are a great idea so if you can find them cheap please tell us!! :goodvibes

Just looked up some of the JVC one's. They look quite robust, and within my price bracket. I might see if I can try a pair...if I can find a local shop that sells them.:surfweb:

Found this article for you, it gives reviews on some of the noise cancelling headphones but some reviews could be a little bit old. However, it may point you in another direction of a brand you had not considered.

I have some Sennheiser noise isolating headphones obviously not the same as cancelling ones but the quality of the sound is good. This company may make some good noise cancelling ones. As you probably know people post reviews on Amazon which will give you a better indication on how good the headphones are. Ideally cutting out that dreadful airplane drone would be ideal.

Please let me know if you try any. I will have a look through my old copies of Stuff magazine, they regularly look at headphones. I know The Gadget Show did a test on noise cancelling headphones (not in this current series) but they may have archives if you look on their site. Just nipped across to Stuff http://stuff.tv/search/noise+cancelling+head+phones/default.aspx more reading for you.

Many thanks for the links. Some good reading in there.:thumbsup2
