Noise Canceling Headphone ????'S

I am trying to research them for my AS DS who is 8.

Does anyone recommend a certain brand that is reasonably priced?

What should I be looking for?

It would be nice if they could just be popped on his head during fireworks to drown out noise but also popped on his head attached to his DVD player or my Itouch on the plane/restaurants to listen to movies???

Any help would be appreciated

I was looking at these.

The price is right and they are folding to fit in my bag.

My concern is that I also want him to be able to wear them to muffle sound alone (not while plugged in to a device). So, if we wanted to TRY Test Track or another ride that the sound may bother him on - could we use something like this or would the cord be dangling? I can't tell if they detach from the headphones.

Maaaaaannnnnn, I'm going to have to breakdown and actually shop in a real live store aren't I?

my advice - get as many decibels as you can for as little money as you can - the reason to not spend too much - with all the on and off and going to camp, school ,and on trips, and in and out of mom's purse, and his backpack and the floor of the car, and under the bed, and leaving them on vacation, and losing them at camp, etc, etc, etc... you WILL be replacing them often LOL

my ds LOVES his. the best ones we've gotten so far have been the red head brand that we got at bass pro shops (I think there's one in Orlando)

the padding on the top has come apart but we covered it with red duct tape - which he loves LOL

He uses them for mowing the yard, etc. and they block out the noise (he listens to music while mowing). I have worn them too and they work really well. They compare to the Bose ones which are more expensive - these are pricey but work well. We've bought cheaper ones and they are ok but do not noise cancel all that well. The ones you mention - this would be my concern.

you may find that the headphones that work well for movies and music may not work for things like fireworks unless he is also listening to music.

Active noise cancelling earphones work by comparing the sound coming in from outside to the sound of the music being played and then making sound that cancels out that outside noise so the music can be heard. That works well when listening to music, but that technology doesn't really do much when the headphones ate not on and you are not listening to music.

Passive noise cancelling headphones work by muffling the outside sound so that the music can be heard better. That kind are usually heavier and less comfortable than the active noise cancelling ones.

A lot of posters have reported good success for fireworks by using the kind of earphones people use when shooting guns. They are designed to protect the ears from gunshot noise, which is very similar to fireworks going off.

Also, since you mentioned you have an iPod touch, you may want to look into an app called Easy Relax. I believe the basic version is still free, but I chose to spend the few extra dollars to purchase Easy Realx Ultimate. That version allows you use preset relax themes, but you can also make your own relax themes by mixing rhe sounds in the program and then turning some up or others down. You can control the volume of the different sounds in the mix.

I'm going to make (2) suggestions...

For Noise cancelling headphones, consider the models from Creative. www.creative .com. They offer a folding model thatnis easily transported, along with good quality and long battery life. Cost under $50

As for the fireworks....I carry a pair of shooters ear protection for my son. They can purchased at any Walmart, or similar store for less than $20. They will fit over the ears....and they are made to have a gun fired right next to them...they definately will help with fireworks.

Also....my sone likes the sensory part !!
