Noise at AKL: unbearable!

I know packing up and moving sounds overwhelming when you're already stressed out, but I'm pretty certain Disney would do right by you. It would be worth it to give the front desk a call now!

Hmm. We're checking into AKL tomorrow. We're up by 6 AM every morning so hopefully we won't be bothered by noise.

I do think the resort is very nearly full, so switching rooms would probably be very tricky. I guess we'll see what we get!;)

hmmmm, why would you not ask to move? If my child's sleep was disturbed I would gladly pack up again to ensure a fun trip for all of us. A crancky child does not make for a good trip. Who knows, you may even luck out as we did and end up at the Poly. I called for our AKL trip that was in August and three adults (that's us) ended up at the Poly for 160.00 a night which included tax and the extra adult charge. Don't be silly. In the time it took you to write a note complaining here you could have been packed and in a new room.

I agree that I would ask to be moved to a quieter room or another resort. It would be better to fix the problem now if possible than just be upset and letting them know when you get home.

Good luck!

I am really sorry this is happening to you. I don't know if you remember my report from a few months back and the same thing happened to us. I had called MANY times and was assured the construction would not be an issue. At checkin I also requested a room far away from construction. Instead we got the beeping at 6:30 am, it was really unpleasant. The front desk said there was nothing they could do and they honestly did not believe me about what time it was starting in the morning.

Are you sure you are not on Sunset Savanna? By your room # it looks like you are, that is the one that faces the construction site. That is where we were and that is where the animals weren't.

If you are keeping 3 year olds up until midnight, then I think that is the problem.

Pretty bold of you to give parenting advice on a message board for people you've never met; never assume a problem lies in bad parenting. That being said, she's so excited that she's up later than normal. She's usually asleep by 9:30pm CT but occassionally stays up a little later. She's so excited about being at Disney she wants to explore everything. Nobody should be woken up at 7:00am ET to the sounds of construction at any type of resort without inconveniencing the guests. That goes for ALL ages.

I spoke with the manager on duty and requested to be moved. We're now above the Boma restaurant with a pool view, kinda. It's basically an 80% view of the roof and 20% view of the pool. I'm not complaining at all and the room is great. My biggest beef was with the noise. We should get a great nights sleep and wake up at a more convenient time. Myself, i'm up at 6:45 or so and get that delicious cup of coffee at Mara's a short time later. :coffee:

Problem solved, e-mail sent. I'll now fully enjoy the rest of my vacation!:santa:

Enough with blaming the victim. The answer lies with Disney -- don't "upgrade" people to a room right next to the construction! Disney's the one who will make millions from the new DVC units. Disney owes it to guests to make sure they aren't affected by the construction noise. Or, alternatively, Disney needs to simply close down the hotel while they do the renovations. If my stay were interrupted by unwelcome construction noise, I would never return to the hotel to enjoy the "amenities" constructed at my expense. Gees!

Amen. I make it a rule to not stay in resorts where there is major construction, unless there is some big tradeoff that I'm willing to make.

For example, we're staying at the Caribbean Beach in a few weeks, even though we know their lake, main pool, and the walkways to and around it, are going to be walled off, etc. because we got a great AP rate of $115 a night with a King sized bed. And we go to WDW a lot.

But I'd NEVER stay at a place with construction if I was paying full rack rate, no way.

Just how I feel about my vacation dollars. I love that Disney builds fun new things and keeps what they have nice and up to date, but I don't want to vacation where that's happening until it's all nice and finished for me.

I'm a little confused. Isn't room 2257 on the Sunset Savanna? We had a room on the Kudu Trail Arusha Savanna last year and we never saw any ostrich type birds there. I'm not trying to be nitpicky or anything. Just want to clear up my confusion :) .

The thing i saw is called a Crown Crane, according to my Wildlife Field Guide.

Oddly enough, the bounceback offer wasn't in this room. I guess some get it and some don't.

There was also a letter of apology for the construction that was left in our old room yesterday and goes on to say the completion date of the resort is 2009, which we already knew from this great board.

Re: the bounceback deal...are you saying that you asked about it and it was not available as far as you seeing a brochure on the desk? Did you check resort TV for it? Don't know if you want it, and it might have been discontinued, but I booked it (for a different resort than where we were staying) a couple of weeks ago.

I'm glad you moved to a better location. If you are interested in booking a bounceback vacation, check the Resort TV channel and it should show a screen saying that if you call you can save on your next vacation. When we booked ours in Sept, the number to call was #8844 from your room. If a bounceback offer is in effect, it won't be for certain guests and not others - just some mousekeepers put the flyer in rooms and others forget or don't have them or whatever. We didn't get a flyer when we were there 9/3-9/9 but I knew about it from the DIS and watched the TV for the number to call.

HTH! and have a great rest of your vacation!
