Would buying a camper work out well for you? Since it looks like you need a place for the summer months, maybe you could buy a travel trailer and set it up at either the new house, outside a relative's, or in an RV park (the RV parks around me are like resorts...pools, activities..). At the end of the summer, you could sell it to get some of your money back, or you could keep it for future trips.

I could keep it at my brother's house...he would not mind at all!

That would be good for the dog. Cramped, but good for the dog! And the hamster could stay in his house.

Have you looked into possibly renting a house. I know there a lot of older houses behind Redmond High School that people own and rent out, many of them vacant right now.

I'd love to wait to sell our house...but then I'd have to take two loans on the next house...not a huge deal, but still a deal.

Also, isn't it harder to sell in September/October?

As far as it being harder to sell, it really depends on your market. You could put it on the market a month or so before your house is supposed to be done so you won't have long to pay on 2 loans. Or you can have you staying in the house until after your new house is done being part of the deal of selling, but many people would be turned off by that (I would be).

If you have a place to put a camper that might be a good option.

I think it's the most stressful thing about selling and buying a house!

This was going to be my suggestion. You'd be surprised at how roomy some of the campers are now. Especially with slide outs. It would be a grand adventure for your family!

Depending on where you and your DH work some places have houses programs to help with housing. I know that we looked into my the company my DH works with. They have temp housing and help locate appartments. just an idea.

I understand your pain. DH and I sold our house in less than two weeks (which is unheard of this area) and the buyer wanted us out in less than 30 days. We are wimps when it comes to taking chances with having two mortage payments so we waited to make a decision about building a new home until after our old home sold. That left us scrambling to find a place to live for a 6 month period of time (we are now going on our 9th month of living here- but that's a whole different matter). We have two little boys (two and three years old) and a dog. It really surprised us when none of our family volunteer to let us live with them . We are less than your ideal renters to say the least, but we lucked out and found an apartment complex that allowed us to go month to month with our lease and allowed us to keep our dog. It has its drawbacks for sure- it sits right at the base of a huge canyon so all winter it has done nothing but blown- My husband calls it the gateway to H***. We are in a basement unit so it is less than quiet, but with two little boys we are not quiet ourselves. But it's a safe area of town, the rent is okay, and it's not forever. You'll be surprised what you can endure when you know it's not a forever situation. I'm sure you'll find something that will meet your needs, you can't be the only one that is in this situation in your town. Good Luck and I hope that time passes quickly for you .

When our house wasn't finished on time (and the people we'd sold to had to get into ours), we ended up getting a condo for 6 months through a realty company. Don't remember what it cost (but it wasn't cheap) because we didn't have to pay, so I didn't care.

It was a major pain in the buttinski to pack up, unpack some stuff (leaving lots in storage), then pack up AGAIN. Ug.

I really feel for you. We were in your situation five years ago. We don't have family in the area, and the only short-term apartments we could find were geared towards people whose company was footing the bill--they were outrageously priced. We finally ended up renting a house that was to be torn down in a few months to make way for a senoir housing development. It was in a nice town but was in very rough shape. Next time, we're buying before selling, although that can create its own nightmare situation.

What about doing a Rent Back? You sell the house, then rent it from the people that bought it until your new house is ready. Or, you can have a long closing. You can have your agent put it in the paperwork so everyone looking at it knows in advance that you either need to rent back or close late. I have a house listed right now that has that in the Agent Remarks. My clients are having a new house built and have both sets of elderly parents living with them. It would be too hard for them to move everyone into temporary housing and then move them again into the new house.

We're in a similar situation and I feel for you! We bought my in-laws' house and are adding an addition for them. I was staying with my parents while DH was deployed and while the house was under construction (no way I'm living with my inlaws!). Well DH has been home 4 months now and we're STILL not moved in. Meanwhile DH is with his parents and the kids and I are with mine. We thought this was going to be a month or two situation tops but it's seemingly endless. In the meantime, all my earthly possessions are in storage, I have my dog boarding with a friend of mine and my cat has been living here at my office. If we had known in advance how long this would drag out we would have looked into a Residence Inn type place or an RV too.

try this site www.vbro.com to look up rentals in your area. I have used it several times to find DH a place to stay while working out of town.
