I agree with other people that it's not about comparing, it's about enjoying different holidays for what they offer.
I love WDW, and can't wait to go back! But 2009's trip cost us over £3k and this years is way more than double. Of course for that kind of money I'm expecting luxury, magic and dreams come true, or I wouldn't have saved for 2 years straight and gone without for it.
On the other hand we LOVE our holidays in La Gomera, a tiny island next to Tenerife. There are hardly any English speakers, there's one restaurant and a pool bar and that's it!
We can get Easyjet flights for about £80, the ferry across from Tenerife is about £80 then our accomodation costs hardly anything as my parents are members of a holiday club like DVC, so we only have to pay a small weekly user charge.
We can have 2 weeks for well under £1k, including anything we spend (which seeing as there are no shops other then the teeny supermarket isn't much!).
But we spend 2 weeks in the sun, sleep 10 hours a night, read about 8 books each, swim, play chess and pool and ping pong, and feel like we're in heaven on earth.
Pretty much the opposite of WDW holidays where we're constantly on the go and entertained, but I love them both and wouldn't trade either.
Of course there are friends and family who say "you're going to Disney AGAIN?!", "two weeks of sunbathing and nothing else?", but we've travelled a lot and for now are happy with Gomera and WDW and a couple of weekend trips to DLRP or other European cities.
Don't worry about what other people, or even your head says you should do for your holiday. It's YOUR holiday so as long as you and your family are happy do whatever you like!
