Why is it if you do not go to florida and try some where else for a holiday it never compares.
We went to spain and everything was dirty, full of graffiti crap food and the theme parks were rubbish. We were queueing up for a water ride with our daughter who was ten and everyone was smoking in line.

Where ever we go go my heart always wants to be in disney, some of our friends probably think we are mad but I love Disney and florida, I love the people the food the weather the shops the beaches the rides...

Am I going Mad????

I think you're trying to compare two entirely different holidays.

Orlando exists because of the theme parks. The whole city is built on the industry. It's the biggest theme-park city in the world. Of course no where else compares to it.

If you go to different places, you need to question WHY you want to go there and what you can get out of it. Personally I wouldn't expect Orlando-style holidays anywhere but Orlando, but it doesn't mean it's not fun to visit other places - you just have to find their niche.

And if you figure out that for you and your family, the Orlando experience is what you want more than anything else, then you gotta go ;)

(This is why I always recommend people don't do DLP after having visited WDW - it doesn't compare, but if you can appreciate it for what it is and not "why it's not WDW", you'll still have a great time)

It helps to remember what each respective holiday is costing you. I do agree that Disney spoils you in the sense that on return, everything else becomes an anti-climax  We don't go anywhere except Disney anymore. So if that means no holiday one year, that's the way it is. I also wondered why a couple of UK theme parks I once loved suddenly seemed 'no fun' after Disney. Those parks hadn't changed, but my expectations had.

Since we started going to WDW we have decided that we for the time being dont want to travel to anywhere else. We love it so much we bought into DVC and look forward to returning each year.

Last year instead of purchasing our flights they day they are released I decided to wait for a sale :sad2: Well the flight prices increased daily and we ended up cancelling our October holiday.

Instead we opted for Portugal. Now dont get me wrong we had fun, but when we actually weighted up how much it cost us, as a family of 6 we always end up in a villa or a suite, then flight costs, then car hire, gee that was £1600.00 for an 8 seater for 2 weeks, then plus food cost and the crazy Euro rate:confused:

We said from last year even if we end up doing Disney on a budget, WDW is now the place for us for the foreseeable future anyhow:thumbsup2

between WDW and Europe, WDW wins every time....

but there are other holidays....back when we were going to WDW 3 weeks every summer, we also took short multi-day hiking trips nearby....at least 3 of those a year....and they were also fun....

but you can't compare them...and one couldn't replace the other..

however, i have to admit i always wanted to take the family on a coast-to-coast road trip in the US visiting several national parks along the way...
but DS wasn't able to sit in a car for an extended period like that (he used to wear a full body brace - and long drives were exceedingly painful for him)..
so we never did the long road trip holiday....
but it's still a dream....i'm not sure it would be cheaper than disney though...what with fuel, food, entrance fees, airfare....i'm sure it would also cost a pretty penny...
but i think it would be nicer than your spain trip in terms of crowd behavior and the like..

I think you hit the nail on the head. Disney is not cheap, but in terms of what you get, it's good bang for your buck.

Dh really wanted to try somewhere else after spending several holidays at WDW so we went to Egypt last year. Within 3 days he was completely bored and saying we should go back to Disney :cool1:

Totally agree with everyone. Hv been for the last 5 years now and if it means not hvg any other break and rarely going out and saving thts what we choose. Went to drayton manor and thought it was pathetic compared to orlando. Didnt go intending to feel like this but i did. I do like the west country but dont fancy abroad really. Would rather do indirect and stay in a cheap hotel in orlando and be happy than go anywhere else. Saying tht love america fullstop and would like to go to los angeles san francisco vegas and new york :thumbsup2

I don't know as much as I love disney, and wdw is the only place I can see us regularly returning too there is so much of the world to see I couldnt just visit the same place each year. I also think its getting sooo expensive flights especially are not good value for money.

We have had some amazing holidays else where in the world and I hope we can continue to exlpore more of it :thumbsup2

We have been to euro disney twice and have never found ourselves comparing other places to that holiday. I think this will change once we have been to WDW later this year.

I adore Disney, both WDW and DLRP, with a passion yet I can't imagine only holidaying at either for the rest of my life and never visiting anywhere else.

This year, as well as a short trip to DLRP, we have chosen Rome for our main holiday and we're all very much looking forward to it.

I'm hoping we'll have lots more trips to WDW and DLRP to look forward to before we're too old to travel abroad ;) but I also hope we'll get to see lots more of the world too.

I deffinatly want to explore other places without a Dinsey Resort, but I'd opt for a main holiday somewhere, and then a lil DLP trip too to get my fix.

Ever since going to Orlando 7 years ago we fell in love with the place, we've been to many other places in those years and always has a great time and found other places we love like Vegas, Hawaii etc. but Orlando has always been where our heart is. We went to Thailand last xmas and loved it so much that we decided to go again last November instead of disney :scared1: we loved Thailand and will definitely be going back, but we're happy to have our 2 holidays booked to Orlando this year.

I think it is incredibily sad with the big wide world out there you won't give it a chance.

Is it the same type of trip NO, but it doesn't mean you can't find joy, fun and awesome places, people and memories elsewhere.

However, that said it is your holiday and travel is a personal thing, nobody travels the same so if Orlando is as much of the world you want to see then that is up to you.

Kirsten - originally from New Zealand (which even though I might be biased is one of the friendliest, most beautiful and fun places in the world.)

We went to Thailand on our honeymoon - it was fabulous, Chang Mai was lovely, Elephant trekking and rafting down a river such lovely memories.

WDW just suits our purpose at this moment in our lives.

We have four children DS9, DS8, DS5 and DD4 and it is such an easy holiday for us all. We are fortunate to have already travelled alot even with the children, ie Mexico, carribean x 3, and all around Europe but we are simply not a Beach/Pool kinda family, and therefore the chaos and energy surrounding a Disney holiday is perfect for us.

We have already said that once DD4 is around 8/9 we will start travelling the world. I would love to spend the summer holidays in Canada, or travel route 66 in an RV, visit family in Sydney and do the Rugby League tour with the three Lions whilst there, spend 2 weeks in California then a week in Hawaii, the list goes on....

But until the whole family can apprecaite those types of holidays we'll stick to Florida for the time been :thumbsup2

I think my opinion echos most others.
I've been going to Disney World for 20 years this year and as a family once we'd been once we would rather wait 2 years for one Disney holiday than two others.
As an adult I've ventured to numerous other locations and have found things to love in most of them. But when I book other holidays I do tend to be calculating how much Disney would be in comparison.
Orlando is my long time love, Vegas is my bit on the side :lovestruc
