No, we do not get freeparking at the Contermporary

Just got back from a quick weekend trip. Yesterday (Christmas) I valeted my car at the Contemporary to attend Catholic Mass. When I went down to pick it up, I overheard a "gentleman" (and I use the term loosely) arguing with the attendant. Once I heard him say, "see this blue card, it says I'm a Disney Vacation Club member and I don't pay for valet parking anywhere." At that point I walked over to him and broke the news, that no, we do not get free valet at the Contemporary, only at DVC properties. He finally paid up, muttered something at me and stormed off.

I have never been so embarrassed to be a DVC member. This kid was trying to do his job and all this guy did was berate him. I felt the need to apologize for his behavior and indicate that we are not all like that.

Mister, if you read this forum, I hope you are ashamed of yourself!

You should have sprinkled pixie dust on the mean DVC man.

We recieve so many perks that maybe he thought he owned the entire world of Disney.

I thought we recieved free valet parking too. I would have streesed this point if I thought so just like him. Now I wasn't there so I don't know what was being said and if he was berating the cast member that wrong but many times we DVC members have to remind some cast members of these perks. I have had to many times for discounts at restaurants and what few stores are left that honor the DVC discount and they act surprised as if I am trying to "get away" with something. They can't be expected to know everything and sometimes a reminder is needed. As to the perks, it seems they are slowly being whittled away or ones that are very rerstrictive in their use but thats a whole other thread....smjj

figment2, nice job! I hope you realize that many DVC members feel the way you do. Berating a cast member is so counter-productive. If a member feels they are being mistreated, KINDLY ask for a manager/supervisor. Working together will bring about a stronger relationship. I for one would like to see the day where cast members see working at a DVC resort as some sort of perk. I read a post, I think it was Dean, who said he helps ready the villa for the next occupant. Something about "timeshare training", other places require this. I hope a majority of DVC members would voluntarily adopt this attitude. I know I will.

Why would DVC members get free valet parking at non-DVC resorts??? I can't imagine why he would think that. I have never read that in member perks, the DVC website, or anywhere else. I hate to see people being rude to CM's-DVC or non DVC. That's really a shame.

I just posted this in another thread, but it is applicable here as well:

I found a message from just after the introduction of the fee for valet parking that specifies this:

http://groups.google.com/group/rec....735?hl=en&fwc=1

However, Disney Vacation Club Members will not be charged for valet
parking at Disney's BoardWalk Resort and Disney's Wilderness Lodge, regardless
of where they are staying. Disney Vacation Club Members must show their DVC
Member card or Walt Disney World Resort ID indicating that they are a "DVC
Member" when leaving their vehicle to be parked in order to receive this
service at no charge at either Disney's BoardWalk Resort or Disney's Wilderness
Lodge. Members will be charged for this service at any other valet parking
operation at the Walt Disney World Resort.
Whether or not you are charged to
valet park, gratuities are still appropriate.

Ya know, maybe it's just me, but to stage a public meltdown over $6???!!! I get this same feeling every time I see folks fussing about tipping the mousekeeping staff, etc. It's not classy, it's not gracious.

If you can't afford a couple of bucks for tips, or the fee for valet, then maybe you shouldn't be on vacation, or maybe you should be parking your own car. I know some people have a "I paid all this money to come to Disney, you should treat me like a king" mentality, but good grief!

DVC members also do not get free parking at the theme parks with just the DVC card. You have to be staying at a WDW resort (including the DVC resorts) and have a parking permit paper. If you are staying offsite, no free parking (unless you have an AP). I've seen posts where members thought they get free theme park parking by showing the blue card.

If you have an ADR at a resort or theme park, and the DDE card, parking is free as well.

Where was the mass held? I know in the past masses were held at the Poly Luau Cove, but I didn't think Disney had masses on property anymore? Was it a special arrangement for Christmas visitors?

Actually, the diocese had put a stop to Catholic masses on-property in 1996. I had not heard that they has reversed their decision.

I think they do have "special holiday" masses, like for Christmas and possibly Easter. The regular Sunday morning masses were cancelled in 1996.

This is from Disney's December 2005 Calendar of Events:

Contemporary Resort -- December 25th - The Walt Disney World Resort will host religious services on Christmas Day, December 25, in the Fantasia Ballroom of Disney's Contemporary Resort. Catholic Mass will be held at 8 and 10:15 a.m.; a Protestant Service will be held at 9 a.m.

Best wishes -

Just take your Portable Perks booklet with you and if you run into a problem, show it to the CMs. This should take care of any disputes and it doesn't look like you are trying to get away with something. JMHO

I though valet parking was now $9 - like the parking at the parks????

if it is only $6 it is a bargin!!!

Some members complaint about everything. I think that is why the portable perks - so members will know what they have and DON'T have....

Actually the sign said $7.00 (I thought it went up too). This guy's whole attitude was horrible. I kept saying to the attendants that not all DVC people are like that.

I had a sneaking suspicion that he knew he was wrong and thought he could get away with it by bullying the attendant.

There is, unfortunately, a number of people who ply such offensive, selfish tactics. :sad2:
