I was listening to a radio show the other day and they were discussing how NO-vember is a time that many people give up something, which is where the NO-vember comes from. They were saying how many people give up sweets or alcohol now, to detox their system from it, before they'll be consuming these items for the upcoming holidays. Some will give up going shopping for themselves to save up for Christmas gifts for others. Some may give up going out to dinner, because they'll be going out a lot during the holiday season. The things to give up are endless for an endless amount of reasons.

So I'm curious.....have you ever heard of this?
Do you do this?
Do you know others that do this?

Personally, I have never heard of this before. I found it interesting, but not interesting enough to do it. I do give up something(s) for Lent, but that is totally different.

So, what are your thoughts???

If you heard it on social media likely it is wrong............LOL. People post a lot of phony/made-up nonsense and then it is a game to see how many repeat it elsewhere. Catholics often give up something during Lent but that is more in the March-April timeframe.

As best I can find, November got its name mostly from the Latin word for NINE. That was WAY before there was an internet too !!!

I've also heard of no shave November. I wear my special edition Toms all fall as they celebrate prostate cancer awareness month which is designated as September. Other than that, I've not heard of anyone abstaining from something in November. Usually, that's relegated to January.

I actually heard it on a radio show that’s on The Catholic Channel. The show is a fun show and they weren’t talking about it as a religious thing - they gave the examples I gave. One guy said he’s doing it and the other (who’s a priest) said no way to doing it - LOL!

I've never heard of it, but we've always had a rule that DS couldn't buy anything other than food starting November. That was to prevent him from buying something that we'd already bought him for Christmas.
