No upgrade for Cat 12's?

Hi!

I'm a newbie to the cruise boards....trying to research and book our first cruise for 2005. I've been told by someone that Category 12's never get upgraded, so I should book at least an 11. Is this true? In addition, if we wanted to get adjoining rooms, we need to book no lower than a Cat 10. Is this true as well?

TIA

When I tried to book a cat 12, they automatically upgraded me to an 11 which was the cheapest room available. There are only a dozen or so cat 12 rooms on the ship, so I suppose when those book up, they upgrade you so they can continue to fill up the ship. (My guess at least).

We stayed in a Catagory 12 (2021) on our first cruise and in an 11 (6 something) second time and I have no idea what the difference is between the two. Maybe all of the 12's are on the second deck.

We booked onboard for another 12 (2 something) for our third trip and was just informed that we had been upgraded to a 9 (outside w/porthole).

We're exctatic so it is possible.

We booked a Cat 12 and were upgraded to a Cat 9. We booked 14 monthe early, I don't know if that was a factor.

we booked a catagory 12 and were upgraded to category 9 on deck 2. We booked about 15 months ahead of time and it was before the Disney Magic had even started sailing and up until about 6 weeks before we weren't even sure when the sailings would really start.
