I wanted to thank everyone who responded to my post about my Mum's death and the fact that my work would not give me any time off. After the funeral I received a call from one of my drivers. He told me to take the unpaid time off and he and his wife would give me my salary for the day so that I wouldn't be out any money. I can't believe he and his wife would do this for me. I called my boss and told him that I wouldn't be in on Wed. It will be nice to have the day to try and get better. The funeral was today and was very nice but I am really tired out. I think emotionally more than anything. I guess that is why I keep doing my job. Not for my bosses but for the people I look after.

I missed your original thread, but just want to offer my sincere condolences.

Sorry about your loss  , I lost my mom in August. That was kind of them. I couldn't imagine not having time off after the death of my mom. My company automatically gave me 3 days, but I used some other time I had and took a week. It still wasn't enough.

I am so sorry for your loss.

agnes!

That is a very nice thing they are doing.. There really are good people out there, aren't there. :flower3:

My sympathies once again. :grouphug:

My deepest condolences on the loss of your mom. It's horrible that your company could be so cold and heartless at such an upsetting and difficult time. No one should have to chose between honoring their mom and paying their bills.

Thank goodness for people like the driver who is willing to help out.

It's sad about your mum, and a sorry company that won't give you time off!

Doesn't the Canadian govt. mandate bereavement leave? I've heard so much about their health care, maternity programs, and just assumed they had time off much like the United States' FMLA program.

Got tears in my eyes reading this. How wonderful to have people that care about you, very touching.

Big hugs to you all.

Trish

I am so glad these people were there for you and are in a position to give that generosity to you. :thumbsup2  I am also glad you accepted.

As for your bosses, they are absolute nitwits. Franky, I might have gone in to work and just sat their & cried for the whole 8 hours, if I wasn't allowed to get it off. Let them realize, I may be being paid, (since paid leave was out,) but to expect anything productive out of me was stupid and heartless.

Again, sorry for your loss. :grouphug:

It seems that in Ontario the government lets it be up to the individual companies to decide how much bereavment they will give. My company decided that they were not going to give anything. However, I know that if the shoe was on the other foot they would get at least 6 weeks to "recover" at full pay. Again, I would like to thank everyone here, it is nice to know others care.

I am allowed 3 days off, and it has to be for a Close family Member ONLY! Mom/Dad/Child...no Aunt Uncle or Grandparents are included.:headache:
