No Tgiving night available. What is my strategy at 7 months?

Ok so I just closed and my points were available today!

Have been waiting and worrying about getting my Tgiving ressie but there was nothing I could really do about it until today.

I wanted 11/16-11/26 at BWV in a BW preferred view 2 bedroom. I knew my chances were slim.

Here is what I could get.... turned out it's 3 ressies right now.

11/16-11/20- BWV BW view 2 bedroom
11/20-11/22- BWV Garden /pool view 2 bedroom
11/22- Tgiving night and no where to stay yet! :scared1:
11/23-11/26- BWV Garden/pool view 2 bedroom

Did I do the right thing by making these three ressies? We really want to move as little as possible. I could handle maybe one move but not 3 or 4. My parents are going on that trip and it seems to take all day for my mom to pack up her stuff and be ready to go! I have painfully lived through this before!

I could have also gotten the 16-20th as the garden/pool view but I felt like I should take at least the nights I could get as BW view since that is what I wanted. It's hard to know what to do though.

What should I do now? As a new member I'm not sure what the best strategy would be at the 7 month mark.

Any thoughts as to whether any thing at all will become available for Tgiving night? Any thoughts on whehter the other resorts have any openings even though I can't book it yet? :confused3

Thanks for the advice! :grouphug:

Not to be mean but the best strategy is to buy where you love to stay. That is the only way to guarantee being happy especially when you are spending thousands and thousands of dollars over the length of your contract.

Congratulations on closing
I believe you did purchase where you want to stay, correct since you booked today at 11 months out.

Anyway, first thing....did you waitlist Thanksgiving? If not call at 9 am tomorrow. Tomorrow starts online booking so CMs may be busy but get on the phone and waitlist Thanksgiving.

Only you know what you want best but for me, if the garden/pool view was available for all the nights, with the exception of Thanksgiving, I would have taken the nights, which I guess would have made you have 2 ressies with one day on Waitlist. If, but I believe it is really more of When, your Thanksgiving day comes through, you would have all your days without moving.

At 7 months, you may be able to get OKW or SSR for the full nights but since you own and want to be at BWVs, I would make sure you are on waitlist and really think about if it means more to you to see the Boardwalk or pack up and move. At 7 months you can check anywhere you want for one night or more, although as you know, nothing is guaranteed.

I had a 2 bedroom over the BW 2 years ago and while it was nice, I can tell you it was very loud at nighttime and early in the morning. At night, it was loud with BW activities and at about 2 am, Jellyrolls and Atlantic Dance Co get out so there were a lot of loud conversations since many were drinking. In the early morning, the Friendship boats start tooting their horns. Don't get me wrong, I would do it again in a heartbeat, and actually calling next week to try to move to a 2 bedroom end of August at BWVs, BW View, but it is just something else to think about if you want to give yourself an excuse to get the Pool/Garden view and not have to move.

Congratulations and let us know what happens and when your waitlist comes through. Good luck :grouphug:

Since you own at BWV and that is all that is available, you really have limited options.

What I would have probably done, is to forgo the BW view room and booked all the nights in a pool/garden view.

I would then have asked if I could get Thanksgiving in the pool/garden for cash (25% DVC discount) so that I at least hand my stay. I would then put in a wait list for the 22nd in the pool/garden view in hopes to get that cash night into a points night. But, at least you would have one reservation from now.

This would give you time to consider other options for your 7 month window.

Good luck!

I would take whatever I could get without moving and wait list only Thanksgiving.

Not sure if you understood.... maybe my title was confusing...

It should have said what is my strategy WHEN it gets to be 7 months.

I did buy where I want to stay. I bought at BW, I want to stay at BW. I couldn't book at 11 months because I hadn't closed yet. Today was the first day I had points in the system and it is between 9 and 10 months out now.

I was wondering what my best strategy will be when I get to the 7 month mark in April.

Can I waitlist Tgiving now though? I asked about that today and the CM told me that I had to wait to the 7 month window to do any wait listing? Was the info she told me accurate?

Thanks for the encouragement!

Never even thought about the cash reservation thing. That is a pretty good idea too. More to think about. Thank you! :)

Yes, of course you can waitlist it, it is your home resort. They should have even asked you if you wanted to waitlist.

Call back tomorrow morning and do what Sandi said.

This is what I would do:
Call back tomorrow and ask if the first few nights you have the BW view are available in the pool/garden view. If so, get out of the BW view and move to the pool/garden view. Waitlist your one night, Thanksgiving and also pay cash for it so you have a reservation for that night. Make sure you specify you want pool/garden view. If your waitlist comes through, great, no moving and cancel your cash reservation. If it doesn't, great, no moving but you would have paid cash for that one night.
By moving your first stay out of BW view to pool/garden and paying cash/waitlisting, you AND, more importantly, your parents are in your same room the FULL vacation. Once you unpack, you can settle in and not worry.

Does that all make sense to you?

Yes it does thank you!!!!!!!

I guess that CM kinda gave me bum info because she told me to call exactly at the 7 mo window and if it wasn't available at that point because of other people switching ressies around then I could wait list it. I specifically asked if I could wait list now and she said no. :headache:

Oh well! Now I know!

One more question..... If it does end up being a split stay with a cash ressie in the middle is it still considered all one ressie if I want to add the dining plan?

Thanks again!

That I do not know. Make sure the dining plan is what you really want. Once you own DVC, you have a full size fridge and most have their breakfasts in the room and you have your snacks too. We always order are food/alcoholic beverages from gardengrocer or wegoshop and it is wonderful. Now that you are a DVC owner, you will be able to purchase TIW (Tables in Wonderland) card. There was a report that it would start this spring but someone here said someone purchased it this week for $100. This would save you money if you look into the restaurants it services, which is a lot. I had time last summer at work and for a few days really crunched the numbers for Dining Plan and it didn't make sense and if anything I came out even. We eat in signature restaurants and regular restaurants BUT NEVER breakfast especially since my kids are 18 and 14. Don't just buy the plan, look into it you are a DVC owner now LOL

If you are not going to plan to move your BW view to garden/pool view, you will need to specify what view you want to pay for.
Let us know how it works out tomorrow.

Yes, it would be considered a linked reservation and a continuous stay. The only time you can do the dining plans now for part of your trip is if you do it as a split stay, which means changing room types or views.

If you left the first part of your trip as BW view, got Tday as cash in a pool/garden view and kept the rest as pool/garden, you could then do dining plan for the BW view nights or the pool/garden nights. Of course, you would be moving rooms this way.

And, in terms of wait list, you can most certainly wait list a room that is not available. I just put in one for early December at BLT because I could only get LV and not SV.

Congratulations and good luck!

Hi. Do you have a update?

Hi. Do you have a update?

Yep. I was able to create two wait lists. One was for the night of the 22nd to open as a garden/pool view. The other is for the 20-26 to completely open up as a BW view. I still have 3 ressies.

11/16-11/20 bw view 2 bedroom
11/20-11/21 garden/pool view 2 bedroom
11/22- nothing but wait listed
11/23-11/26 garden pool view 2 bedroom

I didn't ask about the cash ressie yet. I looked on the regular wdw room booking site and it only showed a 2 bedroom standard view available for cash. I figure ms has access to the same inventory right? I didn't think I wanted to pay cash now for a third view involved.

I am still open to any suggestions! Thanks!

CRO only shows standard for BWV, you end up getting whatever is open, which is usually pool/garden. I think there's a good chance your waitlist will come through for pool/garden for Thanksgiving, I'm actually surprised it's not available at 10 months. If it doesn't, then I would look for a cash reservation.

Ditto.
Remember, too, you can get a DVC discount for the room (if available).

MS has different inventory to CRO - I would call again and ask now at least then you will have a place to stay for all nights.

No offense...but my policy is ALWAYS don't go anywhere near a holiday that's maxed out.

Its not the rooms...its the crowds and the lack of restaurant availability.
Not worth the hassle.

I know instinct for many is "well, lets just go and try it...maybe its not as bad as we think"

the problem is...it IS that bad

Well my saga continues...

I am able to have all nights in one place at least!

I changed my Nov 16-20 to preferred pool/garden so that I wouldn't have to move. I also was able to get a cash ressie for the 2 bedroom preferred pool/garden so that all of our nights would be in one place.

It was $793. on my card. (ouch!) :scared1:

But it is worth it to me to not have to move and also she said if my wait list does come through I would be refunded.

I do still have a couple of questions for ya though....

Right now we have 4 travel plans for this one vacay! Does it make any difference? :confused3

Nov 16-20 on points
Nov 20-22 on points
Nov 22-23 cash
Nov 23-26 on points

All of the above on a 2 bedroom garden/ pool view at BWV

We also have 2 waitlists...
Nov 22-23 for a 2 bedroom garden/pool view
Nov 16-26 (the whole stay) at a 2 bedroom BW view (I know it is not likely to come through but thought I would try)

My questions are:
1. Does it matter that we have the four travel plans?
2. Since we are all staying in one view and type over 4 travel plans we will not have to move right? (This was the whole purpose of me changing things in the first place)
3. Will we have to go check in and out 4 times and get new cards? (seems like pain)
4. If we opt for the dining plan (Havent decided yet) can we get one dining plan to cover the whole time on one set of cards?

Thanks for any info! I always appreciate the dis! I don't know how people live without it!

No, it does not matter.

You may get new keys, but you will not have to check in/out for each reservation

Not sure about the dining plan... but if you are going for 10 days I would really consider getting annual passes and TIW card...you will save a lot of $ on food and get 20% off all your sit down meals and 10% off souvenirs with your annual passes

Counter service options at BW are ok, but not great... and thanksgiving week is crowded... the line at the bakery (only CS option at BW) can get quite long.
