No smoking on verandahs enforced?

I was wondering if they strictly enforce the no smoking on the verandahs rule? Our very first Disney cruise (way back in 2002) we got a verandah and never got to enjoy it because it smelled like smoke every. single. time. we tried to go out there. The last 4 cruises we've stuck with a porthole room but we recently booked a VGT for the transatlantic and I was curious if I was going to get to enjoy my verandah this time. I'm really sensitive to smoke so it was quite disappointing last time.

As far as I know, it's enforced. But they do rely on people to report it. They really can't do a patrol of the verandahs to see that no one's smoking, but can check on a reported incident.

We were on the Fantasy last March and had this problem. We talked to our cabin hostess who told us to call guest services. They followed up with us several times until the issue was resolved. We were pleased with the response.

I have had the same problem as @melni. I've called to report smoking on the veranda, guest services did not follow up with us and the smokers continued, even when I called several times. Count me as one who books the oceanview room.

Thanks for the reports from two who have actually had experience in reporting violations, with opposite results! Here's to guests who give Disney the courtesy of following those rules, and here's to Guest Services who follow up when they are made aware of a guest who has chosen to ignore the restrictions. Sorry to hear that sometimes neither party (smokers or GS) does what they should do. Hope it's the exception.

We actually discovered cigarette butts IN our room at the beginning of our last cruise. An inside room at that. Can't believe some people would so blatantly flout the rules.

On last year's EBTA, the guy next door to us was a smoker. We weren't going to report him until he became a real jerk about it. In the beginning there were a couple of times we went out and could smell the smoke but wasn't sure where it was coming from (we were port side, deck 8 so didn't know if weird wind might be carrying it from the smoke area up on deck 9 or something). We just went back in and figured we'd use our verandah later. Well, after a few days of not being able to use the verandah -- which we wanted to do before we were too far north to enjoy it, we went out and could see the guy next door to us smoking on the verandah. I, very nicely because I know this is a touchy subject, asked him if he was aware that smoking wasn't permitted on the verandah. Well he flew off the handle (found out later this was how he reacted to everything -- listened to him yell at his two children continuously for 2 weeks!) He went in his room still yelling about the "b" next door. So I picked up the phone and called Guest Services figured it was better to have them handle this crazy man. I heard them call him immediately. We did get a phone call a couple of days later from GS to be sure the problem had been addressed (for us it was, doubt he stopped smoking out there, more likely just did it when we weren't on the verandah). I guess after they get a report, they also notify the cabin steward (I guess to keep an eye on that cabin and determine if there needs to be a cleaning fee assessed). Our cabin steward mentioned something to us that it was good we reported him (with all that yelling, don't think the cabin steward liked him much either) and that it was going to cost him a few hundred dollars for a cleaning fee. (He was in concierge so the money may not have been an issue but was glad GS called him out on it, I was afraid they wouldn't since he was concierge.)

We experienced this during our 6 night sailing from Galveston. We were concierge and the stateroom forward was not. These people were constantly smoking. Zero regard for anyone except themselves.
We contacted concierge and they attempted to contact the smokers by phone and knocking on the offending stateroom door. These people refused to answer the door or the phone. Notes were left by the ships crew in these people's stateroom and they continued to smoke. We had reached our boiling point on our first sea day after CC. We were unable to use our verandah and the ships officers appeared to take it very seriously. We had concierge on our verandah trying to see if anyone was in the stateroom. Rodrigo was able to observe the water bottle being used as an ashtray! There was a constant presence of ships officers near the offending stateroom. These people continued to smoke, ignoring phone calls and attempts to contact them at the door. It was explained to us that staff could not enter the stateroom just because these people were smoking.
We do know that on the last morning the offending stateroom was emptied early and there was an ozone machine running outside of that stateroom's front door.

I don't believe that Guest Services wouldn't follow up with this.

Hummm... I would think the Captain could enter any room he wished. Especially if they were doing something that they weren't allowed to.

I agree. It seems to me that smoking in a restricted area (room) would be a fire hazard which would demand a response.

I can promise that I would not let it go. I would continue to complain and climb the ladder until it had been addressed. If my mini fan has to be inspected by the electrician, then I am sure a burning cigarette would cause Disney and the CMs to resolve the violation...

I am pretty sure the captain has the right to make you get off the ship if you are not following rules at a port. I would report and every time I smelled smoke I would call guest services. I would make myself a pain in the butt of guest services (being nice of course) and make them deal with the issue. One of the main reasons I pay a premium to sail on DCL is the smoking policy. That makes me mad that they are not enforcing the policy super strictly. I have a right to breathe clean air. You have a right to smoke, but there are places to do so that I can and do avoid.

Wow! People are realy stupid! DCL does say very clearly that their ships are smooke free! It would be one of the main reason I would choose them over another ship.

I hate self-entitled people. Grrrrr!

I've never had an issue with this, sailing 2 times with a verandah, but heaven help anyone who lights up near our cabin in the future. I will be that person calling guest services every single time. Hell no. If you can't survive without the cigarette, pick a different cruise line or quit.

Sorry, english is not my main language.

No apology needed. I was just having fun. If I offended, then I am sorry. English is my main language and I make spelling errors often. Spell check helps me big time. :)

I agree that smoking neeeds to take place in designated areas only. Follow the rules and respect others.
