No Sleep Till Disney! We can save money by flying at 6am! (Updates!! 12/7 - p.12)

LOVING the last few updates :goodvibes Your dinner looked wonderful, but Im too scared to take DBF anywhere off the beaten path, he is so boring when it comes to food

The pictures of the parade came out amazing!! I was so happy to see that parade back...I know growing up on disney with special memories really makes it a special place as an adult :goodvibes

I have to tell you reading about your fear of HM when younger is funny, it reminds me when I was about 9 or 10... I broke the turnstiles at HM because we got all the way to the front of the line and I FREAKED and ran back out the line the wrong way :rotfl:

The food looked great at Jikos and Im glad you got great service at the hotel=) Great updates=):thumbsup2

I think at this point, we might venture to say that it's the best restaurant on property!

Wow just looking at the pix and barly reading the trip report I could tell that you had a great night

It was an awesome night! I still can't believe we made it to 3am having had no sleep the night before!

Hi Jen, Your trip report sounds wonderful! So looking forward to reading about your trip! Jennifer

Hi Jennifer! Welcome to the TR! I hope you enjoy it!

Great report. I can't wait to hear more. I love the story about your first time on HM....mainly because my story is extremely similar except I was 14...:rotfl: I literally gave my Dad a bruise from my nails. He felt horrible for taking me on it afterwards...But now it's the best ride in the whole wide world...lol.

:lmao: I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who has a HM story to tell! We should start our own special club!

Day Two, Part One: "I am weary, let me rest..."

Needless to say that after that insanely LONG and BUSY day, we did not get up early the next morning. I had scheduled in a "sleep in" morning. And we actually really did sleep in. Not "Disney sleeping-in" but real actual sleeping in!

We didn't get up until after 10am. And we were still SO terribly tired.

The first plan of the day was lunch at San Angel Inn in Mexico at 1pm.

We got over to Epcot with not a lot of time to wander around. But we stopped for a quick photopass pic.

Photo0029.jpg

Let me just say that it was really hot. No - seriously - HOT!!! Again, our trips always seem to coincide with record heat. It felt like walking around in the broiler of an oven.

For this trip, I decided to try a new product. I had been reading around on the Dis, of course, and came upon a thread that I could totally relate to: excessive sweating. There is a trait in the Graf gene pool that makes one sweat WAY more than most people. (I sarcastically thank my dad for that every summer....) It's something that we all have - the women and the men.

I've learned to live with some sweat, but sometimes you want certain areas of your clothes to stay dryer. So I got these wipes from Sephora that actually really decrease your sweat. They're supposed to be as strong as getting a botox shot to your sweat glands. Today was the day to try them out - under extreme conditions!

So I have to say that they did help a bit. But in those conditions, NOTHING could keep my body from sweating. But it did seem to HELP a bit. At least it's something!

Now, I know that San Angel Inn is infamous for getting mixed reviews here on the Dis. We've never had a bad experience with the food personally. I mean it's nothing to write home about, but it's still pretty good. What CAN'T BE BEAT is the ambiance of the place!!! It's just SO pretty in there. That's another thing I remember from my very first trip - walking in to the Mexico pavilion and being in awe as to how it looked like it was night-time. (I also remember on that trip that the line for the boat ride was actually out the door. Can you believe it?!?! Yikes!)

Here I am getting ready for a lovely lunch:

IMG_6000.jpg

We both started out with Pineapple Margaritas. Holy cow, were they strong!

Being still on the Deluxe dining plan, we both picked out our appetizers. Brian got the tortilla soup. They actually bring out the bowl with the tortillas and other soup ingredients completely dry, then pour in the broth at your table - to keep the tortillas crunchier.

I got these crab tortillas things that were mighty tasty. (Both apps are in the pic...)

IMG_5995.jpg

For our entrees, Brian got the pulled pork dish. (I know, it doesn't look great in the picture, but it was very good.)

IMG_5997.jpg

I got the chicken enchiladas.

IMG_5998.jpg

We both finished off with the Flan:

IMG_6001.jpg

Overall, it was a great meal, we had good service, and you can't beat the atmosphere!

:thumbsup2

After leaving lunch, we tried to walk around World Showcase, but we only made it as far as Germany...

IMG_6002.jpg

The heat was really getting to us. Combine that with those margaritas, and we were both really hot AND a bit dizzy in the head.

It was time to head back to the resort. But to beat the heat, we made a quick stop at Club Cool for some air conditioning and free international Coke products.

IMG_6004.jpg

Perhaps I should mention for those who don't know me IRL, I'm downright addicted to Coke. (Coca-cola! No snarky jokes please!)

I don't drink coffee, I drink Coke. Every day. Usually two or three. I just love it SO much. In fact, I think I'll run downstairs and grab one now....

Yum!

And before leaving, we stopped to get a photopass pic of us melting under the heat...

Photo0031.jpg

It was back to Jambo House for some pool time and relaxation. But not for long! We had dinner ADR's at Narcoossee's! And we were gonna have lobster for dinner!!!:yay:

Me and my hubby are addicted to Pepsi so I understand where youre coming from when youre addicted to Coke(coca cola people :lmao: ) You guys looked hot out there from the pictures but that Mexican resturant has a grat backdrop awesome!!:thumbsup2

I love the blue shirt

You - Coke
Me - Diet Coke!!

I'm waiting for Club Cool to stock up on some Diet Coke stuff.. I want a Diet Coke shirt so bad!

I completely agree with you about San Angel Inn.... one of our FAVORITE places to eat... that atmosphere is incredible!:goodvibes

Loved the sweltering Photo Pass shot in front of Spaceship Earth!!! :rotfl:

Too bad about all the heat... but it's Disney heat, right?! :thumbsup2

Great TR, thanks! I'll keep reading (after I get back from my trip - tomorrow until 9/1). I also LOVE your new shirt from EE, and you can't beat the price... hoping I can find one when I'm there! :thumbsup2

Thanks! When I saw it in the store, I knew I HAD to have it!

Yay for San Angel fans!!

I'd rather have Disney heat than PA heat!

And you're right - I didn't notice anything relating to Diet Coke at Club Cool! What's up with that?!

Thanks for joining! And how exciting that you're getting ready to leave!! Awesome! Hoping you can also find a great deal on a cute item! :thumbsup2

Day Two, Part Two: Bring on the seafood!

After a brief respite at the pool, we got all cleaned up and headed to the Grand Floridian for dinner at Narcoossee's! We had eaten there two years ago and really enjoyed it. When you're on the deluxe DDP, you can get the whole lobster entree, so I already knew what I was getting! :thumbsup2

I started out with a Passion fruit mojito!

IMG_6005.jpg

I can't remember what Brian got.... just the regular mojito?

IMG_6006.jpg

Yum!

IMG_6007.jpg

(Hey - my hair almost matches my dress!)

We soon found out that our server was also from PA! And from the same county as the one I grew up in! (Bucks County!) It's certainly a small world - especially when you're at Disney!

He took this shot of us:

IMG_6009.jpg

Brian started with the hearts of romaine salad:

IMG_6010.jpg

And I had the crab legs. (SO SO good!):

IMG_6011.jpg

Then we BOTH decided to get the whole lobster. It was served with asparagus and this really good pasta in the center of the plate. But after a day that already included a full meal, by the time we got to the dinner part of our meal in the evening, we were already feeling full. Everything was cooked so well and was so tasty. My ONLY issue was that the tail of the lobster was a little overcooked and ended up a little rubbery. (The claws were perfect.)

IMG_6012.jpg

For dessert, I can't remember who had which. One is the sugar free mango sorbet with berries and the other is the key lime and coconut creme brulees.

IMG_6014.jpg

IMG_6015.jpg

After dinner, it was time to head back to our resort. We were still quite tired, and we had this one last night at Jambo House.

As the bus was approaching Jambo, we noticed all kinds of trucks and ambulances and such. They actually had to drop everyone off at Kidani Village because the entrance to Jambo was completely closed. We walked back and weren't able to get a straight answer from a CM. (shocking.) The two at the door weren't spilling ANYthing.

We moved along and decided to go for a nice night swim. The hot tubs were still open, so we got some relaxation there before swimming in the main pool.

But it was late(ish) and we were beat. We decided we would do all our packing in the morning for switching over to BLT (Bay Lake Tower).

Next up: trying out the new BLT! And my quest to do research as a new travel agent! :)

Day Three, Part One: Moving day and research day!

On Sunday, we were up at 7am to pack and shower. We took one last trip to Mara (the counter service at Jambo House) and then left our luggage with Bell services to be transferred over to BLT.

We hopped the bus to MK, then the monorail to BLT. Time to check in to our new hotel!

Would you believe it.... we got there and our room was ready! D'oh!

We so should've brought our luggage with us instead of having it transferred! Now we wouldn't have it until after 3pm. Grrr.....

Oh well.

We started taking some pics inside the Contemporary.... There's me in the lobby of the Contemporary.

IMG_6019.jpg

IMG_6021.jpg

IMG_6022.jpg

Here's the patio on the side of Contemporary looking over to BLT, then looking over to the Magic Kingdom...

IMG_6025.jpg

IMG_6023.jpg

The walkway connecting the two buildings...

IMG_6026.jpg

The carpeting in the halls was all about hidden Mickeys!

IMG_6032.jpg

Looking out the window of the hallway towards the pool area:

IMG_6050.jpg

Here's our room!

IMG_6033.jpg

IMG_6037.jpg

IMG_6039.jpg

IMG_6038.jpg

The view from our balcony - Contemporary to the right, and the lake to the left....

IMG_6042.jpg

IMG_6046.jpg

Put me in the camp of people who do NOT like the set up of the bathroom sink area in the same "room" as the kitchenette area. Don't like.

IMG_6034.jpg

Okay, so the room was nice. BUT, AKV Jambo House is better!!! The room was the same (or smaller) than our VALUE size studio at AKV! What the heck?!? Now, I've heard that the 1 and 2 BR villas (and Grand Villas) are fabulous, but what about all of us who usually do studios?!

cont.....

We really didn't have a lot of time to rest. I had scheduled our switch day to be "Official Research Day."

Remember how I said I wanted us to either see or do other things that we hadn't done before? Well today I wanted to get pics of some of the other resorts. The plan was to head over to Epcot so we could loop around the lake where all the Epcot resorts are and take pictures. Then we would head to one of the moderates that we hadn't stayed at before to see what it was like in person. (As far as moderates, we've only done Caribbean Beach.)

Off to Epcot we went. First stop was the Photopass CM at the entrance....

Photo0040.jpg

Yup, the Tinkerbell shot. She'll be back again later in the trip, too...

Photo0043.jpg

We headed straight back for International Gateway, already sweating insanely in the intense heat.

Passing Canada....

IMG_6052.jpg

And England....

IMG_6054.jpg

IMG_6056.jpg

Then we headed out of Epcot via International Gateway. First stop was the Beach Club. We stayed here two years ago when we brought my parents and grandmother. It's a lovely resort with a great pool complex, but the best part is the 5 minute walk to Epcot!

IMG_6057.jpg

IMG_6065.jpg

IMG_6066.jpg

Then the Yacht Club right next door....

IMG_6069.jpg

There was this really cool globe in the lobby. I LOVE maps/globes of any kind and can really stare at them for the longest time. (I used to have a giant relief map over my bed when I was a kid. I would spend so much time "exploring" it in my mind.)
IMG_6070.jpg

IMG_6072.jpg

IMG_6071.jpg

Next, we were off to see the Swan and Dolphin.

IMG_6078.jpg

I had only ever seen these resorts from a distance and wanted to see what the lobbies looked like...

First stop - the Swan:

IMG_6083.jpg

I was a big fan of the light fixtures...

IMG_6084.jpg

IMG_6087.jpg

Then we were off to the Dolphin...

IMG_6093.jpg

IMG_6094.jpg

IMG_6098.jpg

IMG_6101.jpg

IMG_6105.jpg

IMG_6106.jpg

Then the Boardwalk...

IMG_6113.jpg

IMG_6115.jpg

IMG_6116.jpg

Continued....

...So walking around that lake and stopping in a few spots actually takes longer than one might think when coming up with said brilliant idea.

Besides, the heat was SO BAD. While leaving the Boardwalk and heading back towards Epcot, I announced to Brian that we would NOT be visiting the moderates. There wasn't enough time, and the heat was getting me close to the passing out threshold. I just couldn't take it.

It took ALL my effort just to walk back to Epcot. We were going to head to Morocco for some lunch. And I HAD to sit down in the shade before I hyper-ventilated and collapsed. (Okay, I know this sounds a little melodramatic. But really - I DO get really sick sometimes in the heat. My body just can't take it.)

On our way.... (I couldn't resist a lovely shot of France):

IMG_6121.jpg

I got us a table in the shade while Brian headed inside to get our food. We shared a plate, as we weren't super hungry. We got the chicken/lamb combo - served with hummus, couscous, and tabouleh. Very yummy.

IMG_6123.jpg

Some pictures along the way around World Showcase...

Morocco:

IMG_6126.jpg

Japan:

IMG_6132.jpg

America:

IMG_6133.jpg

Italy:

IMG_6135.jpg

And we tried to get a sneak peak at the new restaurant (which is now open.) But all we got was a look at the top of the building...

IMG_6137.jpg

Deutschland! (Germany):

IMG_6142.jpg

We were headed to Norway for a little shared snack/dessert. We had to use up the rest of our Deluxe DDP stuff today. Which meant we had snack credits to use up!

IMG_6146.jpg

We wanted to try the famous Rice Cream that everyone always talks about. It's rice pudding with strawberry sauce on top.

IMG_6149.jpg

Very good!

A pic of Mexico from the outside:

IMG_6150.jpg

Even though we were on a mission to get back to the resort and cool off with a swim, we noticed there was NO line at Spaceship Earth. Nothing!

Well, we had to ride it!

Here's some pics from our "future." Haha!

IMG_6152.jpg

IMG_6153.jpg

And of course, we did the thing at the end where you can email yourself your own personal future video.

But it was time to rest. Time for a swim at our new pool!!!!

Subbing in to your great report! I was in a 2bedroom villa at Jambo the same time as you! We like Jambo better than Kidani because of the close proximity to food for the kids! The Saturday night all the trucks were there was because someone reported seeing smoke on the roof!:scared1: We were in MK so I missed it but I heard allll about it! No fire - thank God!

Anxious for your report on BLT my home resort that I have yet to stay in!:confused3

The day we went to Epcot Club Cool was broken - you lucked out!

Welcome! So glad to have you along!

Yay - the mystery is solved! Gee, reporting non-existent smoke is kind of like pulling a fire alarm when there's no fire. Aren't people not allowed to do that?

I can't believe we were there at the same time! Small world!

All I can say is SO many wonderful pictures!! too many to comment on!! Your TR made me realize I have not seen half of the resorts at disney, I wish there was time to tour them all, with ease!!

I didn't get very far before i had to comment -

* Love the pedi. So gonna be finding one of those pens before our December trip. I know my girls will love a Mickey pedi!

* We, too, will be flying out at 6 a.m. for our trip. Now I have to go back and find out how your first day ended up going to see if I made an okay decision!!

Love your TR! :goodvibes

Day Three Continued...

"More Great Food!"

After leaving the sweltering heat of Epcot, it was time for a brief rest at the pool.

Here's the fountain in the courtyard area leading to the pool:

IMG_6160.jpg

And here's the pool!:

IMG_6161.jpg

Looking up at BLT:

IMG_6162.jpg

I have to say - the pool slide is great! :thumbsup2

But the pool is TOO SMALL! There were times on the trip where we felt like there was hardly room to move in the pool - or you'd bump into someone. So definitely a thumbs down in that regard. Now, I know you can pool hop over to the pools at the main Contemporary building, but we kind of liked the idea of just going downstairs to the pool, without having to trek all over the place. Plus, it was nice that they had a refill spot by the bar to fill your refillable mugs.

Anyway, before long, it was time to head up to the room and get ready for dinner! Tonight was dinner at Sanaa! (Haha - here we just left AKV, and now we're headed back there for dinner!)

Sanaa is located at the new Kidani Village building at AKV. We tried it early last summer not long after it opened and we loved it! We were so excited for tonight's dinner!!! They serve Indian food and have a beautifully whimsical decorating style in the dining room.

On our way to dinner, I was super excited to get an email on my Blackberry - a new client! Yay! It's a woman who works with my mom who wants to go to Disney later in 2011. I emailed her back and started talking over ideas with her!

When we got to Kidani Village, we had some time to relax before our ADR time, so we walked around a bit and took pictures of the lobby and the savannah....

IMG_6163.jpg

IMG_6164.jpg

IMG_6165.jpg

IMG_6173.jpg

We were seated in the middle of the dining room - not next to the big windows, but that's okay, we still had a great view of the awesome decor. The pillars in the room are made to look like elegant tree trunks that open up to giant leaves on the ceiling that sort of resemble giant lilly pads....

IMG_6177.jpg

IMG_6183.jpg

This was our last meal on the Deluxe DDP, so we were still in the "appetizers included" group. So we started with two "sharing" type appetizers.

The first one was the bread service. (You get to choose your breads and spreads.) The spreads we got were red chile, mango chutney, and garlic pickle. I really liked the red chile - it was nice and spicy.

Then we also shared the salad sampler. This is also one where you get to choose from a list of selections. We chose Potato/corn/spinach, carrot/tangerine/mint, and watermelon/radish.

Both dishes are shown in the photo, along with the spreads...

IMG_6182.jpg

Everything was SO GOOD!

We started with drinks too, of course! ;)

Brian got beer, and I got the African Star Mojito!

IMG_6178.jpg

Our server during our dinner was Sessler. (Very unique name!) We chatted quite a bit during the evening and I found out that he also does theatre and singing. He even sings in the choir for the Candlelight Processional during the holidays! Very cool!

Now - on to the entrees!!!

Brian ordered the tandoori shrimp with basmati rice:

IMG_6184.jpg

And I got the sustainable fish dish. Tonight's fish was salmon served with zucchini, carrots, onions, shrimp, and scallops. (My mouth is watering just remembering it....)

IMG_6185.jpg

After dinner, we found out from Sessler that they were doing away with the rice pudding dish there. (Being replaced by some kind of tapioca pudding.) So I HAD to get it. It's really good - very different from what we think of as traditional rice pudding, but still really good. Brian had it last year, and I knew that's what I wanted on this trip.

We overheard a different server at the table next to us discouraging those people from getting the rice pudding because "it's not like regular rice pudding." I think she told them they should just get the chocolate cake or something....

Grrrr..... This gets me to another topic that I feel really strongly about..... Please Disney, do NOT dumb down your menus because of a few picky people with non-adventurous palates! There's plenty of places for people to get "American" food - in Disney and ALL OVER! I can get that at my local Applebee's! In Disney, I like to get stuff I don't get at home!

Okay - sorry - off my soapbox now. It's just that if we wanted "regular" stuff, we'd go to Liberty Tree Tavern, or something like that. But we don't want that!......

Well, I was super happy to be getting the rice pudding, and Brian ordered the dessert sampler - which had chai cream, passion fruit kulfi (like ice cream), and chocolate cake.

Dessert Sampler:

IMG_6186.jpg

Rice Pudding (that's Mango sauce on the bottom):

IMG_6188.jpg

Sessler was also super nice and got us a Mango pudding to try, since it's a new recipe from what I had last year. It was good - but I have to say I think I liked last year's better.

Mango Pudding:

IMG_6189.jpg

And the chai cream was REALLY good. It was like a light weight pudding/mousse that tasted like chai. (And I love getting chai latte's in the winter time!)

They let me keep a menu!

IMG_6193.jpg

It was time to depart from this FABULOUS dining experience and head back to BLT. We decided it would be kind of cool to do the Magic Kingdom EMH since we could just walk home afterwards instead of waiting for a bus.

On the bus to MK, we started talking to a woman, who happened to be at that table next to us! (The table that was discouraged from trying "different" food.)

We were talking about all of our great dining experiences, where we like to stay, etc. We also started talking about DVC. They weren't members, but had thought about it. Of course, we raved about how much we love it; and that our only regret was not buying in sooner. We chatted all the way back to MK! I gave her my email in case she had any questions, but never heard from her. (I hope I didn't scare her off! I guess not everyone is comfortable getting too involved with strangers...:rolleyes1 )

Next up...... another late EMH at MK!!!!!

subbing - a great TR! So jealous that you became a Disney TA - agreed a dream job!
