I would love to make "no sew" knotted blankets-the fleece ones where you cut & knot the fringe. Any one have any tips? Pics would be great, too! TIA! :thumbsup2

I bought 2 yards of fleece, one yard with a pattern, and one yard of solid fleece.
I layed both on the floor on top of each other, good sides facing out. I cut a square out of each corner about 2 inches into the fabric. Then I cut 1/2 inch sections 2 inches into the fleece all the way around. Before I moved the fleece I tyed the corners into knots. Then I just layed in bed and tyed knots all the way around. Hope that helps. I don't have any pics, sorry. I used a brown giraffe print on one side and hot pink on the other and it turned out very cute. My dd loves it.

A good pair of pinking shears is a must. Don't get the cheap ones. After about 30 strips around the edges your hand gets really tired..

DD19 made 100 of these for her Girl Scout Gold Award. I had lots of fleece blankets in my house!!!!

Congratulations to your daughter on the Gold Award. My daughter completed the Bronze last year, just finished the Cadette Leadership Award and is working toward the Silver Award. She hopes to one day complete the Gold but still has alot of work ahead of her to get there.

Another tip knot every other one on one side- then flip and do the other side-lies flatter that way

my mil made one for my dd. it defeats the purpose of no so but she sewed the edge of the blanket where the fringe stopped and then tied them.. that way it cant come apart...

We have lots of these blankets!!! The kids love them... but we did have the double fleese ones and my kids just got to hot using them, so we ended up untieing them and making them a single peice. So if it is for a "HOT" kid... you may only want to use one piece instead of doubling it. I really like how the double ones look, print on one side, solid on the other... but we just couldn't use them here at our house!

My best advice...

good scissors and allow lots of time to cut... as your hand does give out after a while :-)

the girls and I made 2 of these last year for DH. the 1 yard blankets are great for kids, or to lay on your lap,but they are not big enough to stretch out and snuggle under. I bought 2.25 yards of fabric, so after doing 3-4" fringe ties, the blankets are just over 6 feet long. it was a bit harder to keep them lined up, I pinned the layers in place, and as I cut the fringe, I tied off one set every foot or so.

I used a rotary cutter, well worth the investment. It made the cutting zip by. These are adorable and fun to make. Don't get stuck in the print on only one side idea though! We have the princesses on one side, and the princesses with their horses on the reverse side. We also have one that is green camo on one side, and blue on the other. Not my fav, but DS picked it out and loves it! We did the 1 yard for the 3 yo, the 1.5 yard for the 11 yo. The 15 yo has almost 2 yards. His is tie-die, and stripes. VERY LOUD!!!!

I have been doing these for about 2 years now. I have been buying my fleece at Big Lots, Walgreens, anyplace that has the fleece blankets. They are finished off, but I just pull out all the thread, line up the 2 sections and go to town! :happytv: The precut size is 50" x 60", just right for snuggling on the couch. And if you get the blankets on sale, they can be made for $7-$8 each. Last Christmas I made them for DH's side of the family, this year it's my sides turn!
