No school AGAIN tomorrow!!

This morning our temp was -16 and the windchill was -35. The kids still had school

Here it is 6 degrees, wind chill I think is between -10 and -15.

Overnight the air temperature is expected to drop to -1. (not sure what the expected wind chill is though)

It's about the same where I am, but we only have a delay.

The difference is, in Minnesota they EXPECT this. In NW Ohio, we don't! The normal low this time of year is 17 degrees! I can only remember 2 times in my 19 years at CHS that we have closed for cold until now. It just doesn't get like this. If it was like this all the time I'm sure we'd be more ready for it, have shelters so the diesel fuel works, etc.
It's like in Buffalo they would never close for 6 inches of snow, but it would close us down--we'd never close for 2-3 inches, but one inch would paralyze Cincinnati. It's what you are used to.

True....our normal high this time of year is 32 degrees.....so it is a HUGE difference

Our windchills here in Wisconsin were 40 below today, and we didn't have school surprisingly. They should only be around 30 below tomorrow so I'm sure it will be back to school.

Yeah, I was shocked that they cancelled it altogther. Maybe there are some issues (due to the cold) that I am unaware of, I dunno.

Beth- I'm sure I've spoken to you before but I can't remember where you are. Our school -Madison-waits until everyone else in the county closes, I'm sure. Why can't they just list it on the 6 oclock news?!?

Well,Madison has shown closed for about an hour already. My kids are in Mentor, and they are now showing closed as well (finally). DH teaches in Wickliffe, and they are, I believe, the ONLY district left in LAke County to not be closed for tomorrow yet. We're expecting windchills more than 20 below most of the schoolday tomorrow, I guess...1pm or so.

I do agree that it is all relative to what each region is realistically prepared for. Here, it gets cold but not THIS cold every winter. Usually we close because of the lake effect snow "machine."

And we only have one more snowday left before make-ups are required. EEK.

Columbus, Oh closed again tomorrow because of the cold! I still have to take my youngest dd7 to the dr at 8 tomorrow morning as I think she has strep.

I am near Canton, OH and we are off tomorrow. I am a teacher, and I got the call around 4:00. It's nice to know before tomorrow morning!

Some of the moms were talking at dd's school today and one of them said they had problems starting the busses this morning. That could be why some schools closed.

The kids are happy, though. I just don't want to lose other vacation days for this.

DH teaches in Painesville City. He got the call a couple of hours ago. i swear he's like a giant kid!

Now if only they'd close the libraries too! (I'm a children's librarian in Willoughby)

Well the district where I live finally called it closed. Even Toledo City had been closed for almost 2 hours! My kids were really sweating it out. Now we can all turn our alarms off.

We're closed here too. Diesel buses don't run well in such cold weather leaving loads of children who are innapropriately dressed waiting in dangerous temperatures.

I think every school in Milwaukee is closed tomorrow. Yet I'll still be expected to go out and walk to class. Unbelievable.
