I posted this in the restaurant forum, but didn't get any response. I thought you guys might be able to help. My father was just diagnosed with Meniere’s disease which requires a no salt/very low salt diet. Can anyone recommend which restaurants would be the best for us to eat at that could accommodate this dietary restriction. We are trying to plan our TS and CS meals. Anyone have any experience with no/low salt diets at Disney?

Thanks!

As a 4 year sufferer of meniers I am sorry to hear that, it can be difficult to deal with on the bad days  Eating out is difficult because there is so much sodium in fast and processed foods but Disney does list heart healthy items that are low in fat/sodium. Also chefs are very accomodating. Make sure you mention this on the phone or list it when making your ADR's online. Also, be aware that any diuretics he may be taking make you more prone to sunburns and overheating, so he needs to drink lots and lots of fluids!

Everyone is different, but I find I need a little salt in those conditions because you burn off so much of them and the diuretics tend to flush them out as well. Caffiene is more of a trigger of mine, but with the disease everyone tends to be effected by different things. Salt doesn't seem to be one of my triggers.

meniers.org is a great site with forums for sufferers and tips that I reccomend at least reading through. My quality of life has improved dramatically from things I learned there.

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

The basic answer to your question is: "All of them".

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Go to Post #3 and scroll down to the section on dietary restrictions. There will be quite a bit of information as well as links to several related threads.

Or, if you want an easier route, click on the link in my signature.

I'm on a low-salt diet for the same reason. I had really good luck during my last trip. I ate salads as often as I could and stuck to simple food. It was really easy to manage. Like someone else said, there was the concern about prolonged exposure to sunlight because of the diuretic. I drank a lot of water and stayed out of the sun as long as possible. Best of luck!
