I did a search on Disney.com and it seems rooms for the week of Feb 2 - 9 are full. Anyone know why the sell out. i am starting to freak out about crowds! After all my careful planning for a slow season visit.

I found my answer...i could cry! I so didnt want to be in Disney with a bunch of noisy Cheerleaders!

"National Dance Team Championship (February 1-3, 2008), National High School Cheerleading Championship (February 8-10, 2008)"
Dh isnt thrilled about Disney as it is and he is goning to be alot less thrilled if he is woke up by Cheerleaders chattering and chanting as they head to the food court at the resort.

Doesn't most the New Orleans Natives try to get out of town when
MG is going on? Kids get off of school for long weekend.
I've heard most of them head to WDW.
That could be why there are no rooms?

I am a little worried too. The idea of a 'quiet' Disney vacation was quite appealing....but when I inquired about upgrading to a moderate I was told they were all sold out.
Disney could be quite crazy when we are there!

We went one year during the cheerleading thing and it honestly wasn't that bad. We were staying at POR in Alligator Bayou that trip and it seemed that there were a lot of teams staying in Magnolia Bend at POR. We'd hear and see them on our walks to get our drinks or breakfast and I imagine that if we would have been staying at MB it might have been a wee noisy but we were in the back of AB and loved it. We didn't see too many of the groups in the parks during the day or at the beginning of the trip.

Im sure we will be ok. I was just very upset when i first discovered this bit of news since i had tried to avoid the competition weekends.

The WDW website is not accurate for availability. You need to call CRO for reliable info.

Just wanted to agree with Eeyore's pal - I've been checking similar things too (but for the week before) and will get really varied results online. A month or so ago, it looked like every last room was booked for all of Disney... yeah, that was not remotely the case!

Also, I have heard that the cheerleaders tend to obey the posted quiet times and spend the days practicing rather than at the parks, so maybe the impact will be minimal...

Yeah, a lot of us do go, but it's not enough of us to fill up every room except for those at FW and SSR. Most people actually stay behind for the parades. Those of us that leave get looks like we are from Mars or something.

I noticed this same thing the other day. I'm hoping it is just a glitch in the website.

I live in lower Alabama. We went to WDW during our Mardi Gras break two years ago. It was CRAZY busy. You have to remember that Mardi Gras holidays encompass southern Alabama, southern Mississippi and Louisiana schools. We saw eleven families that we knew. From my school, I knew of at least 25 families making the trip to WDW. Yes, the weather was perfect and it was nice not to take the kids out of school but...the lines were long (45 minutes for Dumbo) and crowded. Would I do it again??? YES!!!!! If you can get a room, go for it. It's WDW and it magical!!:teacher:

I've been at Disney when the cheerleaders are there, and it wasn't nearly as bad as the experiences people had with the Pop Warner kids this month. In fact, last February I didn't hear any cheering at all, even though I did see some small groups of cheerleaders in the park.

You always have the option of staying at one of the Deluxe resorts. We've done Mardi Gras week many times, as it's still one of the slower seasons at WDW, and have never had issues with cheerleaders at the Deluxes. Yes, I know it's more expensive, but if it's really going to bother someone, I'd figure the extra coin would be well worth the cost of no aggravation. As far as the parks, we really didn't see the teams in the parks either. From what I understand, they're competing during the day, so they don't affect park crowd levels. I'd also like to say that we've met many people at the resorts from Louisiana who were at WDW escaping Mardi Gras and have found them all to be incredible warm and very friendly.

My family is going Feb 4-9, and then a friend decided that his family might like to join us. When I started researching, I found no rooms available for them!! I was shocked, and it left me wondering why this so called "slow season" was booked solid.

I thought we were going at a quiet time, and I'm a little disappointed that it'll be crowded.

But, as someone said before, it's still Disney, and it'll still be magical. So keep your fingers crossed for those of us going during that time.

The reason it was so busy two years ago is that Mardi Gras almost always coincides with President's week - one of the busiest weeks at WDW. This year Mardi Gras is almost 3 weeks before Presidents Week. I still think it will be much quieter than past years. I'm not worried about the cheerleaders.

I had a student last year who went to cheerleading competitions two or three times during the school year. I think only one of those times did she have time to go to the parks, and even then, she said she only got to stay about an hour. I don't know if her experience is the norm or not, but from what she said it sounded like they stayed so busy with practice and competition that they got very like free time to explore the parks.
