No room request added?

Okay, just checked my email again & this is the response I received to my question about whether or not there has been a policy change:

"Thank you for contacting DISNEY VACATION CLUB®.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Unfortunately at this time we are no longer able to request for either
ocean or water views on a reservation. *Due to the ever-changing view at
the resort (landscaping / tree growth, hurricanes, etc) and the number
of Members requesting vs. the actual number of villas that have a true
view of the ocean, this request no longer exists at DISNEY'S VERO BEACH
Resort."

It's a training issue, the CM's answering emails are giving one answer, the ones answering the phone just now told me again that they would be happy to make a ocean view request for me. :confused3

I was told that there is a ocean view guaranteed category for the inn so maybe that's the problem.

It may also be an example of a member or several members having a major meltdown at the front desk, demanding the ocean view room they "requested."

I actually witnessed such a meltdown at OKW several years ago when the specific unit someone requested wasn't available. The husband was screaming at the front desk CM, and the wife was crying hysterically. Saying, of course, they paid good money for their membership, and they should get what they want...on and on. The manager had them removed and said that DVC would be in contact with them regarding their membership.

Why do members do that? It's a request not a promise. I've read and seen other members request room reassignments. I understand if the previous member had been smoking in the room and you have a family member with asthma/ allergic to smoke. But, just to move the room because you want something better and want to dump the bad DVC room on the next DVC member just stinks.

I know there are points difference/ booking categories for studio OVIR and GVIR, is there a booking category for OV 1BR?

No separate category for ocean-view except in the inn. My DH thought that perhaps they were adding that category, thus explaining the policy change. Doesn't sound like there IS a policy change, however, if they are still noting requests on the phone.

I'd call. It may be the same CM responding over and over to you who just changed their wording the 3rd time to try and get their point across.

Yes, I'm going to call tomorrow. The emails were signed by three different people, but I suppose that doesn't mean anything.

I have confidence that everything will work out. Can't wait to be at Vero again, with a beach-view room or without!:sunny:

Does anyone else not like the idea that CMs we're speaking with have "training issues" and that perhaps they should be better trained BEFORE they start handling phone calls? That's like the MS CM who told me that no, I wouldn't be able to check the waitlist on line to see if it came thru, I'd have to call. If I'd believed her, the lack of training could have cost them (and ultimately us) money as I kept calling.

The problem is that what you got in the email is policy, as you have a copy of it, in writing.

What you are told on the phone is what they feel you want to hear, such as Requests can be noted but never guaranteed.

So it comes down to, you might get it, you might not, which is the way it has always been.

imo glad they accept them! we've been lucky and have often been accommodated as to requests within the category we've booked.

I have always found when calling in they are willing to at least note it. As we all know they are never a guarantee.

As to the ocean view at Vero Beach, personally I don't feel there are any Ocean views except in the Inn and in the Grand Villas.

Pretty much like Epcot view at BCV.

I think the policy is stated like it is in the email, the OP received so there will be no one upset that their ocean view really does not have a view of the ocean unless you book an Inn room or Grand Villa.

I never knew you could make a request via email until I read it recently on these boards, so this was the first time I tried it. We are checking into Vero so late that I knew there would be no chance of getting a beach-view room if it wasn't assigned to us during online check-in. Of course, even then, it can be taken away & reassigned to someone else, can't it?
