I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone.I was just booking my stay and was chatting with a CM.He told me that the pet loops are first come first serve bases. If there were no pet sites available when I got there they would have to go in the kennal. That would be $$$ and :sad1:.

I have never heard of them doing that. When the pet loops get full, they just designate another loop a "temporary" pet loop.

You were obviously speaking with someone who made up answers off the cuff rather than asking for the correct answer.

FtW only makes you kennel your pet while you are away from your site when you camp in a tent or a pop-up. Otherwise, if the designated pet loops are full, they will place you in a non-pet loop.

Actually, I'm fairly certain I have read this rule somewhere... so it seems this CM knows "the letter of the law" but is unaware that this one (as so many others) is not ever put into force. As the ladies said, you have nothing to worry about Katejay.

Last year (late October)the FTW manager told me that the entire campground is going pet friendly and the only places pets will not be aloud are at the settlement and meadows areas and inside of the bath houses or in a tent of soft-sided trailer while you are not on your site. He told me this when I asked him how do you get your pet to the dog playground if they are not aloud outside of your loop as I pointed out the sign at the exit of the 700loop. He said they are also in the process of changing to signs at the loops. and restricted areas. While I was there the workers did add signs to the entrance to the Settlement area. "No pets beyond this point".

Shan - they have never denied ressies to people with pets. If they have "over-booked" pet sites, they overflow to other loops.

As far as I know, the only "rules" regarding pets is they have to be on a leash at all times, they are not to be left unattended on the site (like that's enforced), and they are not allowed unattended or over-night in a tent or pop-up. There is nothing in the ressies system that "pops-up" and says "Ooooops! We have too many guests with pets registered. Don't allow any more campers with pets." Neither will they turn away a camper that did not include a pet on their reservation.

ETA: Jeff.... I was told by both Mary & Kelly at the front desk that FtW would be an entirely "pet-friendly" park by the end of 2009.

Oh, I'm not disputing that... I'm just saying I know that I've read that disclaimer somewhere that says a request for a pet loop is not guaranteed and if your pet cannot be accommodated you will have to use the kennels. I'll look for it later, not that it matters, since (as we both agree) the rule is never enforced.

You probably did see that back in the 90's when they first started allowing pets at FtW. IIRC, the first year they did "over-flow" pet loops was in either 1995 or 1996. We were placed in the 1200 loop over Thanksgiving '96 - which was the first time we did not stay on either the clover-leaf or 300 loops with our cats. Admittedly, I don't even claim the cats anymore, and haven't since 2003. I've never used $5/nite worth of poop-bags for the cats.:lmao:

I bought a CASE of bags for about $12 and I think there are several hundred bags in there (maybe more) ;)

We've never been told that there might not be room for our pets by anyone at any point in the ressie/check-in process. But we go in Nov/Dec when it's slower and have always landed in a pet loop. Glad this isn't something they ever seem to have enforced. I'm pretty sure if I'd pulled the TT (which we essentially bought FOR the pups) 1300+ miles to be told I had to kennel my 2 dogs, my head would spin completely around and then explode.......

:headache::crazy2::faint:

Thanks for all your posts. That makes be feel alot better.I said the same thing to the CM.That if I drive from RI to the Fort and I have to kennal my dogs I would not be a happy camper.Since I just bought my TT yesterday and booked the fort today that was kind of a downer. My pups will be happy.

Wow, after reading the last few posts, I realize that we are not as crazy as everyone says. We bought our fifth wheel and started camping so we could take our dog on vacation with us and everyone we know said we were crazy. I guess I am just hanging out with the wrong people.;)

Yes it is all about the dogs.Another question would you say its more small dogs or is it a good mix.My dogs are averge size around 55lbs.

I promise you that if I take my tt all that way and have reserved a pet loop, there is no way I would put my dog in a kennel, there would be hell to pay!!!!!! There is no way I would travel that far and not have my dog stay in the tt, if I were going to kennel. I would have stayed at the movie resort and saved myself $$ . pirate:

I second the fact that the dog is why we take a tt....that and bed bugs...hehe

There's a pretty good mix.

BTW, we bought our motorhome so we could vacation -- my wife refuses to board the dogs so we used to just stay home. The motorhome is the only way I can stay away for more than 8 hours! Seriously!

:santa:

Welcome to the boat! We also bought the TT for the dogs, after we realized asking any of our family to watch them was almost as crazy as boarding them. The surprising part was that all this happened after DH got hooked on cruising and decided he wanted to take a cruise every vacation. Then we got the 2nd dog.... :cool1:

Worse yet, we also bought a shack in the woods of Maine 3 hours from our house for them too AND we drive 3-1/2 hours west some weekends to camp at a friend's dairy farm with other crazy dog people.

Nothing wrong with your sanity... just the people you're hanging out with. :rotfl2:

We got into camping because of our pets, too! DH won't board our schnauzer. If she isn't welcome, neither are we.

While I have to say the kennel at the Ft. is has wonderful staff and a nice facility, its just not the same as having your pet(s) with you. I wish you the best and hope you get the 300 loop, the best IMHO. The canal behind the loop is the nicest area to go for a morning walk.

I had a CM tell me that same thing about a year ago and it upset me to think that I would drive that far and have to board my dogs. I called back and explained my conversation to another CM and she said that yes, they are telling people that to be on the safe side, but to her knowledge, they had never done that and would simply overflow into another loop for pets. I guess that she picked up on how upset I was because she assured me that my pets would stay with me. I would pitch a fit that would rival one the my four year old throws if they tried to get me to board my dogs once I got down there with a pet ressie. They would find me a pet loop just to shut me up!!!!

The day I would bring my Dog to Disney World on Vacation ............. NEVER !! Is there no Kennels where you live ?? This may be a little rough for some ....... but Pleeeese ........ Get a Life people !! Can I see a show of hands of how many folks bring there pet Goldfish to Disney with them ..............:rotfl2::rotfl::confused3 :dancer::disrocks:pluto::tinker:pooh::eeyore::smickey::goofy:
