SO here's the deal. I live in a small apartment with limited space. There is no space to keep a treadmill up all the time. (Also, they make too much noise for where I live) When someone walks across the living room above us we can totally hear them. So doing aerobics is COMPLETELY out of the question because it would bring down the ceiling on our neighbors below us.

Anyway, what is a machine that packs us nicely that doesn't make a lot of noise or creates any pounding. I was wondering about the Gazelle, but I haven't heard too many praises on the machine from you guys. We will be moving in a couple months to a our first big, beautiful house, but I want to start now. I really enjoy walking, but I don't want to wake up the whole complex.

I sleep crazy hours so I'm up at night so therefore I can't walk outside or go to a gym anywhere. What do you all suggest?

would the Walk Aerobics series with Leslie Sansone work? (Walk Away the Pounds etc) it is more like marching in place, depending on how creaky your floors are

i'm not really sure -- sorry. you probaby hate to invest too much with moving so soon huh? i would but i'm cheap ;)

pilates are a great quiet workout, but not cardio

hmmm... i'm not really helping am I:teeth:

Walking in place is WAY TOO LOUD for where I live. Sorry. I do have Pilates, but I want cardio too.

Hi Heather!

I have a Gazelle (1st version of it, quite old now - not super dooper like the ones out now :D ) - it's not bad - quiet and compact (can be folded away after use). I had it set up in front of the TV up to a few months ago (now have a Treadmill in it's place).

I started out using a video, but Tony Little drives me CRAZY  !! I don't know what it is, but after a few times (to actually listen to what he was saying) I would do the tape with the mute button on.

I ended up buying mine at Kmart, so I saved on S & H (I think at that time the cost was about $95 before taxes).

Not sure if this helps at all or not - hope it does!

The treadmill I have folds up. I bought it was Walmart for around $200. I use it every day, and have owned it for over a year. It works great. My friend has one of those $1000 big bulky treadmills that doesn't fold. It takes up so much room.

I agree with ohMom about the Walk Away the Pounds videos. My sister has those. I've tried them and think they work great.

Is it better than walking, worse than walking, same? Is it worth it? Do you feel good after you are done using the gazelle? Does it feel like a good workout? I can't use a treadmill where I live because they cause too much pounding. :(

Hi Heather -

I thought it was a good workout - not sure how it compares to walking (other than it's basically a no-impact workout for your knees). When I was doing the video I would break a sweat, so it's definately a good workout (IMO). Most times tho, I would just get on there and do the basic movements. I know - effort in = results, so I didn't see much in the results department.

The part that moves isn't on the floor, so this shouldn't bother your downstairs neighbors.

I don't know if this is necessarily worth the $415 that they are offering on their website - I personally wouldn't have paid that much for it. If you have a Kmart near by - check to see if they have one in stock (too bad you don't live near by, you could borrow mine and see if you like it :D ). You may want to check out Ebay too.

Hope this helps - feel free to PM me with any other ?s if you want to.
