I have an old ( 1972) stainless steel wall oven with a broiler. Last Monday, my hubby was cooking, and used the broiler.
Now after broiling, he turned off the oven. Then as he was ready to serve it, the oven handle fell off .. the oven was so hot.. it melted the oven handle!

So, had the oven repair guy come, and the thermostat/handle need to be ordered... and it will take 3 weeks. The home warranty place offered us a buy back but it was a low offer.

Apparently if they still have parts available they will fix it instead of replace. I am still shocked that the parts are still available.. its a maytag oven (actually modern maid which became maytag).

Anyway, I cna use the oven but with "caution" for three weeks until the parts come in

Yikes. I just replaced the handle on our 10 year old over-the-counter microwave oven. I got the part online and replaced it myself. The handle (with shipping and handling) was ONLY $63.
:earseek:

Keep an eye on that oven. I don't want to hear about any meltdowns in Jersey in the next three weeks.

LOL Pam.. thats where my tag came from.. this "tricky" oven!

Yes, in our case the handle is more than the thermostat as well... The handle comes in two parts the Inside, and the outside cover piece.

:earseek: Wow, that's scary! I'm glad that your husband got the food out before the whole thing melted down . . . and everyone's okay!

It's a shame that Thanksgiving is so close! If it weren't for that, I'd be able to go more than 3 weeks without using the oven. Mostly I use the crockpot & the stove top I guess.

Oh! no oven,!!, does not mean that you don't have to make dinner??? LOL:teeth:

I do most of my cooking this time of year with the crockpot, stove top, microwave and soon to be the new geroge Forman grill.. once I figure that one out.

no stove= eating out ::yes::

well it's not as cheap as a new stove its more fun

Home depot has a 22 qt slow roaster for 39.99

it's big enough to make a 22 lb. turkey.....not at much heat in the kitchen....

Kmart has an 18 qt roaster with buffet insert,,great for parties...

Cincy,
It's the same oven?? I remember that original post - I thought maybe you got a new oven when you moved!:D
