If you don’t use a magic band, and rely on your phone for tap-ins, do the long-range readers like ride photos still work just by having your phone in your pocket? Do we need to “activate” something to get that to work?

We do have magic bands but they are old. I know everyone says that an old band will still work for tap-ins but not the long-range things. So for ride photos, I’m guessing they won’t work. Do I need to tap the preview button under our photo after the ride, or will our phones now do that?

You need to set your phone to allow your MDE account to use Bluetooth. That’s supposed to allow ride photos to link to your MDE/PhotoPass account. It didn’t work very well for us in June, but hopefully it’s working better now.

It depends how old your MB is. The battery for triggering ride photos is good for about 2 years. After that it doesn't tend to work. The RFID for charging, tapping in, doesn't use a battery, so that usually works for a long time.

You could also just purchase one generic MB for the party and keep it in your park bag/pocket for photos.
