Would dried onion flakes taste the same in tuna salad? I want to have a tuna sandwich and tomato soup for dinner, but I don't have any onions and don't want to drive 14 miles round-trip for an onion.. LOL

---------------I would probably re-hydrate them first (there should be the measurements on the container) and then mix them in. Won't taste 'exactly' the same, but should get you close. If you don't rehydrate them, you could have crunch little bits, instead of onion-y bits.
Might not be a bad idea to let in set for awhile in the fridge too after I put the Miracle Whip in.. Luckily I'm here alone - so I can eat whenever I want.. LOLYes, I use dried onion flakes in my tuna salad. I also add celery salt or celery seed.
----------------------Sounds yummy. My love of onions is why I buy 10 bags of frozen chopped onions at a time and keep them in the freezer for whenever I feel like it. Same goes for Peppers, but only 2 bags of those. Sure they are better fresh but for backup, or especially for cooking, frozen chopped is easy breezy. I just made a giant pot of french onion soup with them and some store bought beef broth, recipe from Taste of home... Vive la onion!

I never knew they had bags of frozen chopped onions! Do they come in smaller than 10 lb. bags? Peppers too - huh?
Last year I chopped a few onions and put them in the freezer here at the lake (never thought of doing it with peppers), but I haven't made my big "stock up" shopping trip yet so I don't have onions OR peppers.. LOL
-----------------You can use dried onions. Just reconstitute them in some warm water for about 20 minutes and then use in your recipe.
BTW, you can make your own frozen onions and peppers. next time you have some onions, chop up 2-3 and spread them on a cookie sheet. Put them in the freezer until they are hard, then slide the individually frozen pieces into a freezer bag. You do the same thing with peppers. I cut them into some long pieces, too. You can dump them into your casserole frozen or thaw them out and saute them in the pan.
