I would hate to see either of these close. The ESPN club always seemed packed whenever we were there and the ice cream... well, you gotta have a place to get ice cream on a Boardwalk!

Just the gift shop and arcade areas at ESPN are rumored to be closing to change - not the restaurant/bar.

Being from the NJ Shore, Seashore Sweets never held any appeal. Most of the square footage was a waste and not typical candy/treats of the boardwalk, save for the ice cream and salt water taffy, which others have mentioned. Let's hope we get something somewhat authentic...like a Kohr's Bros. stand, The Original Fudge Kitchen, FRESH cotton candy, etc. Oh wait, then I could stay home.

I liked the Seashore Sweets more in theory than in reality. The packaged candy was nothing you wouldn't find at any Disney retail store. Didn't they use to, way back when, have different candy and sweets (or am I just imagining). Unless I was in there for Ice Cream, I would usually leave empty handed.

ESPN Clubs have been closing and the WDW location has created new menus in and effort to increase revenue. Giving up some real estate makes sense.

Some of us figured that a new ice cream shop would be going in on the other side of the Bakery....just makes sense. With Trattoria and Flying Fish sharing bathrooms, that were accessed by going into Seashore Sweets, well, it wasn't a great thing.
So, hopefully Disney will give us a more 'authentic' ice cream shop, with perhaps some different candy offerings. Saw on AllEars that there may be some SW ice cream offerings in the new shop.

oh wow. anyone have a guess how long a project of this magnitude might take? will be be perhaps open for summer (and more realistically open for next December, when I am planning to go!) now wishing i hadn't talked up how cool it was to have an ice cream place RIGHT ON THE BOARDWALK to my kiddo!
