That would be a nightmare. They'd probably change the name of Walt Disney World to Comcast World. Like those corporations that buy sports stadiums and change the names. I hate it.
so are u saying, as i am hesitantly admitting, that Eisner has made a good decision to say no thanks to comcast.
I think that the disney heritage would be lost forever if a monopoly took over.
Comcast has no clue about theme parks, I know they just want the media part..so they sell off the theme park aspect?
To who? isnt that a scary thought ? (hopefully to Roy they would sell it)
I think Ei$ner is holding out for more money from Comcast. When Comcast ponies up enough dough, he'll sell I'm sure. And then it'll all be over with. Comcast will turn WDW/ DL into Comcast World and Comcastland and make them into really cheesy Six Flags clones.
I can see it now. You call for a reservation and the bitter and clueless Comcast employee gives you a six-month window during which they might call you and let you know when you can have your room at Comcast World. After your miserable "vacation" where everything is broken down and each rude employee tells you a different story, your credit card will be triple billed and they will harrass and threaten you for payment for months, even after you prove you paid.
Comcast is a wretched company and their behavior borders on the criminal. They lie, their services are the pits and their motto must be "The customer is there to be fleeced." Their attitude toward customers is sarcastic and nasty from the customer "service" department to the executive suite.
I could write pages about my horrible experiences with Comcast. I wish they were out of business.
So who do we write to. Take overs usually spell disaster. Case in point: My last job was with a family owed nursing facility. They sold out to the big boys and we were told nothing would change.
Within six months they had cut services, made life so miserable for employees with many years of service that most of them left (a money saving ploy for the new owners) and had basically let the place go to you know where.
Apply that scenario to WDW and I break out in a cold sweat! I'm so mad I could spit!!
I am SO UPSET just thinking about the possibility of a hostile takeover of Disney.
It will be the official end of everything we've come to know and love about Disney.
Being originally from Philadelphia (where Comcast is based), I can tell you without hesitation, that Comcast is absolutely the worst company on the planet in terms of customer service and satisfaction.
It will be interesting to watch. Eisner and the Board of Directors already made the statement that they are not interested in the proposed sale. Roy Disney's site has 2 links -- one to an article about the proposed sale, and one with a copy of a letter from Comcast to Michael Eisner. I have yet to see anything that gives Roy Disney's position on the sale, or whether or not he had any part in the proposal.
Eisner is scheduled to make an appearance today at a meeting of Institutional investors. His comments could be very telling.
Disney used a Trading Imbalance suspended trading period this morning to release their Quarterly report early. The came in well ahead of Market Forecasts in Profits and Revenue.
Too soon to tell... but seems like when they offer the board that hefty a ticket, they have trouble saying no, as means real money, and a lot of it, to the shareholders that they represent.
OK, Let me clarify that I DON'T WANT COMCAST TO BUY DISNEY
Now, I guess I'm the only 1 who thinks the timing of this proposal is perfect. And I'd bet that the upcoming shareholders meeting will be 1 good fight. Comcast probably senses some sharp division among the company since Roy's ouster. Hence the perfect time to throw in a monkey wrench and make a bid for it. If Eisner was planning to try and sweep Roy under the table at the meeting he certainly can't sweep Comcast. We'll just have to see how this goes.
If you take a look at the Disney Yahoo stock board, you will find that there are many shareholders who care nothing about Disney except making a profit. They are in hog heaven. Several actually posted messages saying they could care less what Disney becomes. To them, it's all about the money. Makes me sick! If there is a shareholder vote, those of us who love Disney are probably in trouble.
If many stockholders don't care about Disney, they sound much like many of the board members.
I think that Comcast would sell off traditional Disney if a takeover took place. I bet that a lot of talk is going on that involves just such a scenario.
