I just learned this from a CM posting on another board. No reason has been given, but characters at DL are now forbidden from going on rides. It hasn't been reported if this is temporary or limited only to Disneyland.

SECOND UPDATE:
It seem that folks at Disney itself are confused about this. It looks like characters are now generally discouraged from going on rides, but management may make exceptions at times.

That is a total bummer!!!:sad2:

I ALWAYS wanted the opportunity to do something like that, either myself or my kids but were never lucky enough.

I wonder why???

It was never something that really happened all that often, expect for promotional things anyway.

It was pretty darn rare! I have only seen it once on my many many trips to DL and WDW. I had always wanted to do it too! :) Oh well! Perhaps it is for their own personal safety!

Aww thats a bummer. In 2004 we went and got early entry to toontown. There were my kids and maybe another couple of kids and our girls had rides with Mickey and Goofy on the roller coaster. It was a great time.

Aw, that's too bad! I've seen it happen a few times in the last year and it's super cute (of course I took pictures even though I didn't know anyone, haha!).

I've seen it happen on Storybook - literally 4 or 5 really good characters. So cute, Pluto covered his eyes like he was scared when they were going in Monstro's (sp?) mouth.

I've also seen it on the carousel. Mickey and others. Mickey stood next to one little boy the whole time and it was soooo cute!

Then the surprising one was Splash Mountain! I think it was more than one character, but Goofy at least. Talk about a picture to buy!!

Bummer! DD2 got a chance to ride Astro Orbitor with Mickey 2 years ago, and she had a blast.

That's such a bummer!!! I've always wanted to ride the carousel with Mary Poppins and Bert!! :(
