No more "residential street"?

1 July 2003: Update

There was a cast event last night to mark the closing of Residential Street. The area is now fully walled off, and demolition has begun on the sets. The tram tour is now taking a new route going behind the animation buildings, and some of the props have been moved to this area. It looks certain that there will be no Osborn lights this year.


This is kind of sad...I loved going down that street! Took a wonderful Backlot Tour with someone special this past year....it will be missed!

Heads up to anyone looking forward to seeing the Osborne Lights this year!

Hopefully the Osbourne lights will be back next year somewhere at Disney. That was one of the reasons for going in December.

FWIW, the local news said today that the lights will be set up elsewhere on property; didn't say where. The street will be replaced by a stunt show modeled after the one at DLP.

IMHO, the only thing that made the backlot tour worth doing *was* residential street. And Osborne Lights won't be the same without RS.

DH and DS did the tour on July 4 and there was no street. Also a big part of the end of NY street is also walled off.

Well....I won't have much reason to do that attraction anymore.

We did the backlot tour the last week of June and they had already revised the tram route to go through the props department in the reverse direction as it had once gone. We did get to go through residential street however, and there were groups of students doing some sort of film workshop. Unfortunately, I didn't bother taking any photos during that part of the tram ride. Had I known this was my last trip, I would have taken bunches of pictures.
