No more private golf carts??

i agree with mbmacs.....I rented one for the usurious rate of $47/day last weekend. In two weeks, I'll have my own.

Same here. Even though we only go to FW 1-2 times per year, it kills me paying 3-4hundred dollars each time for the golf cart. So, that was a huge factor in buying one last month. At least that was the argument to the dear husband. LOL

I see what Colson is saying. This topic is titled "No More Private Golf Carts?", so people may read just the subject line and assume that Fort Wilderness is no longer allowing private golf carts. And, he's right -- if that was so, this forum would be going crazy right now! LOL!

But, Tellnotails put a question mark in there, so that it sounded as if he was asking a question. So, that's why we're not going crazy! LOL

This has been a good discussion! It will be interesting to see where Fort Wilderness decides to go with the private golf cart thing. Personally, I don't think they will ban them in the near future.

I remember a few years ago after 911, they didn't allow any outside vendors, so if you rented a private golf cart the vendor had to drop it outside the campground in the parking lot, where you had to meet him and pick it up. I don't think they enforce that anymore, do they?

Actually, they still do enforce that (as far as I know), outside vendors are not allowed to bring golf carts into the campground, they still have to drop them off outside first.

I suppose that makes sense. But, it was nice when you could have the cart delivered right to your doorstep (or tent-flap step, lol). We used Golf Cart Enterprises a long time ago, and they brought it directly to us and picked it up right at our site too!

Yea, for a while, there was a booming golf cart "delivery" service that grew up in Orlando. There was probably 4 or 5 main competitors, and yea, it was nice being able to use someone else, and have it delivered right to your "tent-flap"....(good one...lol).

Obviously though Disney didn't like the fact that their prices were being undercut, plus the fact of allowing people to drive around on their property delivering products.

Kind of stinks, I'm sure those companies were not very happy when Disney pulled the plug

the problem is, that there is only 2 ways for disney to enforce the rules. Tell people to stop and hope they do, or kick them out of the resort. There will continue to be carts at the fort.....maybe not personal carts, but carts. Or there may be a register fee for outside carts in which they ahve to sign a contract and pay a daily fee as well. Who knows. But people are not adhering to the "rules".....and that is where a problem is. With "disney" carts, you can always take the cart away from someone breaking the rules.

The cart fleet has not doubled. it has been SLIGHTLY increased, but only by 12%

how many other rv camps allow private golf carts? I have heard a lot do not for the same reasons (hard to police, underage drivers, liability)

Thats an excellent point about taking the cart away.....

I thought the doubling was a little far ......

Is the fact that they don't double it because they don't have the storage at the bike barn....

They now store all the golf carts in a large lot in the open area behind the bike barn. They have enough room to probably triple their current capacity if they wanted to, so I doubt it's that.

imo the stacking of carts there does not look very good.....Could not imagine where they would put double......

Perhaps they could move them to the barns up front by the horseys...

I think they have it set up rather nicely where the golf carts are at, and it could very easily fit double (especially if they fence it off) without ruining the look of anything. Most people don't come to Fort Wilderness to look at the area behind the bike barn, it's just a walkway anyways. At the bike barn, it's out of the way, it's centralized, and it's convenient. People understand that it's a bike barn/golf cart rental place, and it fits in with the whole area. Putting a bunch of golf carts down by the horses? Doesn't really fit in with the whole theme.

Well, my original point still stands, I still think they are fine where they're at, and I think Disney prefers having it in a centralized location as compared to one end or the other of the Fort.

I like the central location but that area is eye candy to me.....


That is a high use area by alot of guest non cart customers.......



But all those carts look out of place...




Maybe they could have 2 places to rent carts.......

Ok, you can't honestly say that the area behind the bike barn is a high use area for non cart customers (mind you, if they expanded near the campfire I would expect some kind of fence). What reason do people have to go back there? All it is is a walkway that goes behind the bike barn instead of in front of it, and then you're at the edge of the forest area.

I'm sorry, but that area is NOT a high use area, come on, you're making it sound like people go to look at the woods behind the bike barn.

Unless I'm totally missing something, why are you coming to Fort Wilderness to look at THIS?????

that path that leads to the campfire also connects the pool to the 1400 loop and 600 loop and 700 loop etc......tons of day time traffic

unless you dont like the pool or the campfire
