We did the Wanayama Safari tonight (which was amazing by the way) and we were told by chef Josh that the pistachio creme brulee has been removed from the regular dinner menu and is now only available on the safari (or by request). This is because the restaurant is "going in a different direction" and becoming more authentic african and less about fusion. It is being replaced by some spiced cake that Josh says is delicious but sounded yucky to me. The creme brulee was outrageous, but not as great as the flourless chocolate cake.

Well that stinks:sad2: I know they had also removed my fav dessert from their menu, the Tanzanian cheesecake w/lavender sauce...Sigh...Hope they don't tinker too much, if they ever got rid of the filet mignon/mac & cheese, I wouldn't eat there again.

I hope they leave the Lemon White Chocolate Mousse...they could change everything else on the entire menu, just leave that one thing!!

They just acquired a new head chef so a "new direction" is not surprising (and even welcome).

I will be curious to see what the new direction brings. I loved the:lovestruc creme brulee but change can be good. I hope they leave the Taste of Africa alone though.

Had dinner at Jiko last night - the malva pudding on the dessert menu was authentic South African (and absolutely delicious), so I'd be pleased if they really went in this new direction.

I"m kind of excited about this.
I have reservations for the end of Sept. and I really wasn't too crazy about anything on the menu, but I"m staying at the resort and wanted to just give it a shot and check it out out of curiosity.
Each dish looked good until I would get to some final ingredient that just didn't work for me (in my mind for my taste).

I'm hoping the menu changes actually end up appealing to me more.

The one frustrating thing about doing a vacation with several of the signature dining experiences is that they change the menus so often (I know that's a good thing to use seasonal ingredients). But I look at the menus and then get there and they seem to always remove the one thing that I wanted to get!
Just went to Cali Grill last week and the flatbread that I wanted was gone......I made do though...lol.

Well, boo because that is my DH's favorite dessert at WDW, but yay for new directions. Jiko's menu hasn't changed much in several years and, though we loved it, but I would welcome some new options.

Make sure they know you're staying at AKL. Last time we were there, we got an amazing amuse bouche because we were resort guests. I hope they're still doing that!

We were there last week and had the most delicious ice cream. I forget the flavors but both DS#1 and I asked if they sold them anywhere.

I'm excited to hear this. Jiko is my favorite Disney restaurant but I've never been impressed with their desserts. Maybe some changes to the menu will pique my interest.

The lemon white chocolate mousse is newish (added sometime last winter or spring), it replaced my favorite dessert, the Meyer lemon curd with sour cream ice cream and blueberry pomegranate compote.

That is my favorite Creme Brulee at WDW. But it would be nice to see the new menu. But they better not touch the Filet with mac and cheese.

No pistachio cb and no lemon curd? Crap. My two favorites gone. :(

The white chocolate lemon mousse is excellent, I just like to have something not very sweet sometimes for dessert which is why I loved the lemon curd. But the mousse is at least as good--just sweeter.

I loved the pistachio creme brulee and I'm very sad to see it go. But I just learned something. I had this naive idea that the menus on Disney's website were spiffy, right up to date. But after I heard this, I went to the Disney's website and the creme brulee is still there. Since I'm sure first-hand accounts are the best info, I've been wrong. Now I'm so discouraged-I made ADRs today and was perusing the menus, deciding what to eat. What a mistake! Why look at menus ahead of time? And the yummiest looking thing is probably what's going to be discontinued!

You can't assume that the menus posted on any website, even Disney's official site, are absolutely current and up to date on any given day. Disney reserves the right to change them at any time without notice. Posted menus are meant to be used as guidelines as to the types of dishes a restaurant might serve, not as completely accurate reflections of what the restaurant will serve the day you walk into it.

Exactly what I just learned. Dummy me thought they were gospel-etched in stone.

Oh, no! We always had the creme brulee for dessert at Jiko. I thought the chef that was coming back to Jiko had been there before. I'm not a fan of change, as you might guess. They had better not tough the bbq chicken flatbread or the oak filet with mac and cheese!
