I don't often post here but I always read. I saw a thread on the cruise board that I thought would be of interest here. According to the information there the CM's would no longer be trading pins on the cruise because there have been so many disease outbreaks on other ships and they didn't want to be handling pins and exchanging them among guests.

Personally, I think it's ridiculous. Why single out pin trading? what about elevator buttons, door knobs/handles, railings, beverage dispensers, glasses touched by passengers and waitstaff, toilet flushers in the public restrooms...the list goes on and on...

I have an idea  ...... how about if people wash their hands every once in a while? :teeth:

Instead of picking on pin traders they need to study the profile of the person who is getting sick.
Is it more adults than children? Is it more pin traders than not?
And they need to do what most Dr's and hospitals have done. Install those alcohol gel dispensers in areas all over the ship and promote their use in the daily newsletter.
There is no way they can totally prevent the illnesses from occurring on the ship but they can promote handwashing both to guests and CM's. Pin trading is the least of this problem
I went into Bed,Bath and Beyond when I first got sick and bought a bunch of purse size alcohol gel cleansers. They have nice scents now so you don't smell like alcohol. I carry them and use them every time I touch a door, store carriage or anything someone else might have spread germs on. Everyone should have either these or the Purell type with them at all times, germs don't just get spread on cruise ships. Peggie

My friend just got back from a 3 day trip on Disney Wonder.

She said it was announced at the beginning of the cruise that pin trading would be halted because of the Norwalk virus being found on two other ships. One family was very upset because they were part of the land/sea package and brought a bunch of pins to trade.

As for the comments about washing hands, my friend said her skin is about to fall off her hands from the amount of wipes you are required to use while on the ship. Every time you get onboard, on and off the elevators, etc.

Hopefully, this is a temporary thing.

When I was on the Wonder in Mid Nov. 04 they had already started pro active actions such as serving people in the buffets and serving people up on the pool decks in the self serve drink area. I thought this was a good idea to help stop the spread of Norwalk virus.
I can see why pin trading was temp. stoppped and think Disney should be commended on this.
When you compare getting sick with Norwalk or temp. stopping pin trading
there is no issue here.
This virus spreads quick and if taking the pro active measures DCL has helps stop it from spreading more power to them. Just ask the 10% of the people on the Holland America ship how they liked the virus.
