I just discovered that the Chicago Distance Classic is now a Rock 'N Roll event. I guess this means the end of the Penguin medals? It's kind of sad but maybe it will be a good thing. I may need to go for the inaugural event.

Oh boy! Anne heard this at the Philly expo, but it wasn't official yet. I'm kind of sad about it not being a Penguin event any longer, but....I'm already registered for two RnR events in 2009 (Nashville and Seattle), which earns you a special bonus medal, and if you do three events in a year it is another bonus medal. Yep, it is all about the bling!
Where did you find out about this? I wonder if they will offer a great price break on the registration fee like they did for Seattle.
You definitely need to come back to Chicago for the inaugural!!
I don't know if it will allow me to post that link, but here's trying. I was planning on doing the Chicago Distant Classic and while searching through some of the Rock and Roll sites I found a link to RNR Chicago. It kept taking me to the Philly 1/2 so I did a search and sure enough found an article about it.
I believe at this point the half is $65 until March/April. I entered the coupon they gave and it didn't work so when I register it will be $65.
WHOOOO HOOOOO!!!! I may be coming back to Chicago and FINALLY run an inagural race. Is it still in August???? I am a little excited about this as I did get a Penguin medal last year!!!
The date of RNR Chicago is August 9th. At the Chicago Marathon expo, they were offering registration for $40 (the price of most 5k/10k's these days). If you have a large race coming up, I would wait until the expo and see if they have the same offer. The rep there also said they are trying to work with the city to keep most of the race within the streets/neighborhoods instead of on the lakefront path.
I actually asked about this race at the RnR table at the MCM expo on Saturday and they said they weren't accepting registrations because the date hadn't been finalized (which is odd because I knew they announced it during the Chicago Marathon Expo and did accept registrations there). Just checked the website and it now says August 2.
Welll...how about Nashville in April or Seattle in June?? Do two and get a bonus Musical Miles medal, do three and get a bonus Triple Crown medal. Gotta love the bling!
