Have had Virgin Mobile for the past 5 years and really love having an iphone with them. If mine breaks I am going to have to change carriers because I really want to stay with the iphone. Can anyone tell me what other plans give you as great as a deal as Virgin? I have unlimited talk, text, and data all for $30 per month!

We are in the same situation. We found that you can buy the new Iphone 6 direct from Apple that will work with your current virgin mobile account. So you can stay with virgin mobile just have to spend the $ on the new iPhone thru Apple if yours breaks.

How? There is no sim card?

Straight talk is $41/month if you pay annually. Ting might be another option--it's really reasonable for a family.

Only the iPhone 6 and 6+ have both CDMA (code division multiple access) and GSM (global system for mobile communication). The IPhone 5 they sell requires a SIM card. You must buy their unlocked IPhone 6 version. Once you have the phone you go to the virgin mobile site and sign into your account. Then you go to swap phones and fill in the required information. Then your new IPhone 6 should work with Virgin Mobile.

Unlocked iPhone 6 can be used on these following carriers:
Virgin Mobile (Virgin mobile is sprint)
Sprint
AT&T
T-Mobile
Verizon

This information can be found thru the Apple website. On the buy Iphone 6 page click on the "Learn more about unlocked IPhone."

Oh yay! Yes they are outrageously expensive but maybe my existing phone will hang on until the 6 comes down in price ;)

Look at VM's webpage. They've changed their whole way of doing business. Now require contracts of two years for the Iphone 6.

My kids need new phones (using 2 yr old iPhone 4s on VM at $30) and we were planning on upgrading in the summer for their birthdays. We have started looking at options and they are slim. We really need a lot more Data than any of the carriers have in their plans. VM's unlimited has been great.

I noticed Kroger has Apple gift cards now. I will be buying an unlocked iPhone 6 in the next year so I am going to buy gift cards when they run 4x fuel points. That way I'm saving 14%. The nice thing now is you Have flexibility to move from one prepaid carrier to another as your needs change.

Both of my kids broke their iphone 5's. We were able to get new ones from the apple store under the "out of warranty" policy. At the time, they were $269 for the iphone 5 (this was last summer). They are virgin mobile customers.

My teens had iphones on virgin mobile and paid about $32 per month. We found that they did not have reliable service in all areas with VM. My son had a hard time getting a signal in his dorm room, and it was hit or miss getting on the internet using wifi. We also found the coverage area to be lacking when driving to my parent's house.

When the IPhone 6's were released, our family of 4 got a family plan with Verizon. We purchased the IPhones outright (would have to do the same with virgin mobile), and have 14 gigs of data per month for $140 plus tax. About the same price as the Iphones on virgin mobile, with much more reliable service and a much larger coverage area.

Are you saying we cannot do prepaid with the iphone 6 either?
That's how it looks. We were very confused by the new pages they set up, especially since from the looks of what we read, they are no longer offering the kinds of access we've been paying for for years. We had received emails saying that the $35(30) rates would no longer be valid if we made any changes after March 4.

It's likely we are going to have to go this way. However, 14 gigs is not nearly enough for our family. We checked what the three iPhones we have have used this past month. My DD used 11, my son used 8, but was only partly into the month, and my DH who never uses his phone used over 2. Add me into the mix and we're in trouble. We really do need an Unlimited Data program.

That's what it looked like. Their new webpages are very confusing though. And they no longer had unlimited data, only phone and text with specific monthly data usage.

Are you sure you are on their u.s. Page?

My DD19 was the one looking at it and telling us. I'll have to look myself. I don't know why any other page would have come up for her.

Ok, I just talked to her. Her history on her computer said she was on the VM US page, but when she went to pull up VM again today, it was back to what she thought the page should look like and sure enough no iPhones were there (as we'd noticed previously) and no contract plans, and you could buy phone separately (so the right page). Not sure what happened. Thanks for questioning that so we could know something was amiss.

No problem. That's how it works in Canada. No prepaid option on an iPhone 6. But it looks like you can get them.

iTunes gift cards don't work on hardware. Are you sure the cards at Kroger are valid at the Apple Store?
