According to the last Vacation Magic, Boardwalk section:

"January 2, 2002-May 24,2002--All Grand Villa Vacation Homes will be under reconstruction. No reservations will be accepted during this time period of the Grand Villa Homes."

Does any else think that, since all the Grand Villas are being rehabed at once, DVC might be replacing them with 2 bedrooms? Just a thought

It's interesting that they finally made an official announcement. I don't believe they will be changing them to anything but GV's. I don't think they could make such a change without some sort of vote from the membership. They sold the availability of GV's....they can't just make them disappear.

Perhaps if the BWV GV's are underutilized (and I wouldn't guess one way or the other....but the points are just outrageous IMO) they might change them so that they can be divided into 2br's and studios or something....much like the 2br lockoff units. It seems to me that they could do this without any input from members.

Does seem odd that they'd have to do them all at once...unless the idea was to limit the noise to one area and get them all done at once. Who would want to listen to construction in the GV next door after spending so many points?

As a member who likes to stay in a grand villa every year, I was bummed out when I couldn't get one this year and had to get several two bedrooms instead. The advantage to the GV which makes it worth all the points is the location on the boardwalk is guaranteed. Its perfect for large family get togethers. Everyone is together instead of being spread out all over the resort. All are near the elevators as well. I would be very upset if they closed them permanently and won't buy at the other new resorts because they lack them. So for some of us anyway it makes a big difference. Joan

Joan, you would know for sure but I seem to recall the GV's had hardwood floors. I would think refinishing these would be a major job and might have something to do with doing them all at once. They might also be changing the furnishings and want them to be the "same" so there isn't any complaining about an old vs. a new GV.

According to a Disney lawyer at an OKW annual meeting a few years ago one reason why DVC cannot change the OKW studios from two queen beds to one quuen bed & a sleeper sofa (like BWV) is because the initial POS described the studio as having two queen beds not one queen & a sleeper sofa. To reconfigure the rooms would require a new POS & other documents with the state of FLorida & any other place DVC is register. So, I would guess that the GVs will remain GVs.

They are not going away. The internal part of all rooms at BWV have been recarpeted, repainted and repaired on a rolling basis beginning Spring of 2000. All are done now except the Grand Villas. During that time next year they will do the grand villas and it will coincide with the redoing of the outside portion of the villas along the boardwalk which begins in fall and likely by Jan/Feb they will be where the GV's are located. Thus, there will be scaffolding up outside of the GV's during the same time (not making them an ideal place to stay even if they were available).
