No More FREE Parking at the Swan/Dolphin!!

just booked to stay at Dolphin in June and am quite upset that we may have to add another $25 per day to our budget. We are coming from England so are staying for 14 nights!!!! Oh well its already quite expensive thank goodness we already have our annual passes.
:cool1:

Our last four visits to WDW have been at the Dolphin & Swan. I've never understood the explanation for the $10.00 "resort fee" for a paper, coffee and fitness room (non apply to our family). If you no longer have the choice of accepting it why act as if it's an option. Simply raise rates 10.00 a night and tell people it's included. Parking is not exactly convenient at the hotels, but we don't mind walking if it's free. Discounted rates are at a minimum and once they add a parking fee, we'll return to WDW hotels. Does anyone know when this will start?

It looks like the teacher/govt rate is being limited to just a few days in a row in each week. I guess they are hoping that people will pay the higher rate on their other days. Plus they are releasing the discounts much later than before. We are staying at the Contemporary on an annual pass rate for our March trip. In the future I'm going to look into renting DVC points from Sun-Thurs at the Boardwalk Villas. If you avoid peak season, it's as little as $150/night, tax and fees included.

Swan site that still says free parking? I looked all over and couldn't find it.
figure if I can print that, maybe when we go they may honor that since that is what we knew when we booked.

Thanks

In my opinion at least the hotel your staying at can offer you the parking fee at half price or something....

I don't think having a print out will help. I am sure it is in the fine print that they can do this.

Pardon me for asking, but what's the source of this info? Has anyone ever stayed at any hotel where parking wasn't free for paying guests for the length of their stay?

the Gaylord charges you to park wether self or valet as well.

Wow, that's pretty cheezy. I'm a DVC member and sometimes stayed there for a couple days before checking into my DVC unit, those days are over. I'll stay at a Disney resort instead.

Maybe Starwood will waive the fee for Gold/Plat members. They offer such perks at other properties, so hopefully they may follow suit. I just don't see how they are going to enforce this without a monitoring system and lots of gates, etc. Their parking areas are very large and open *(due to convention areas). We'll have to wait and see how this will be implemented.

I think it will be easy to monitor. While the lots are large there are actually only a couple of entrances. I have been there when it was busy and they "resticted" parking by making you show your key. All they did was station a guy in a cart at the entrances. The $7 per car they guy will collect will more then make up for whatever they pay him/her!

If you look at hotel discounts in general you will see that they are down. Even priceline bidders have been complaining that you can't get some of the great deals. People are traveling again.... supply/demand.

Are all the Disney resorts charging this parking fee or only the Swan/Dolphin?
I'm so glad I depend on the Disney transportation and don't drive or rent a car, especially now!!

Remember that the Swan/Dolphin are not Disney operated resorts. Regular Disney resorts, to my knowledge, have not announced any sort of parking fee, except for valet services.

Yes, I know the Swan/Dolphin are not Disney owned but they all share everything Disney does so that is why I asked if the Disney resorts also charge the parking fee.

:sad2: I checked out the swan dophin website under feedback and faqs and it does now state $7 parking fee. I was hoping I could print out showing it was free. I am really angry I will have to add $17 on per day for unessasary fees! I paid extra to stay her over the CBR, which would of been free parking as part of our cruise package. I can see charging for people who are there for the day but not resort guests.

Many "big city" hotels do not provide free parking. I've paid for parking at hotels in New Orleans, Atlanta, Savannah (downtown) and Jacksonville. In fact, the Omni in Jacksonville charged us for parking even though we had a copy of their ad for a special package that included free parking! It was only $5 bucks a day but they wouldn't budge. Needless to say, we would never stay at an Omni again.

Certainly the parking fee on top of the resort fee will give me pause about staying at the Dolphin again.

Any idea if you must pay to park if you are having dinner at one of the restaurants? We are going to Blue Zoo and I'll cancel if we'll have to pay.

I sent them an email as part of their faq. I wonder what their response will be. This trip is costing me a lot of money and now I need to budget more to pay for parking that I thought was free.
