No more entertainment coupon books

What a bummer, we actually use a lot of these and it's a nice fundraiser for the school, one I never minded supporting.

Wow, that's disappointing. I was always able to use more than enough coupons to pay for the book three times over.

Chapter 7 bankruptcy means the company isn't reorganizing. They're just gone. So sad for all of the employees who showed up to work. There was no indication that they were about to lose their jobs.

I'm hoping we can at least use the coupons in the book we have!

Wow. These have been a big fundraiser for our school bands. I still have several sitting around from last year. I wonder how that will affect the rental car/hotel discounts from the books?

our school has done this fundraiser for years as well, but we were actually going to do a different book for next year. The price of these books has just gotten too high, and we didn't even sell half of what we had this year. Guess we won't second guess our decision to go a different way!

Thank you for the heads up. I had booked a prepaid hotel room with them for May- went ahead and canceled it, to be safe . Hate losing that great price, though!

The price here has been the same for years, $30, but the one this year had a lot fewer coupons.

I think ours went up to $35 this year. Hard to swallow when you could buy it at Costco for $20. I still did, as the extra went to the school. But I have a lot of coupons in that book that I wanted to use! Wonder if they will still be good? And they wanted us to sign a contract with them for next year without them giving us a price on the books. So that is why we decided to go to a different company, ultimately.

MTE!

According to the linked article:

If you’ve already paid money for an Entertainment Coupon book, you may worry whether the companies whose coupons are in the books will still honor them. Since the coupons are already paid for, there’s no reason for them not to. Of course, with the coupon company itself out of business, there’s no one to ensure that the coupons are still worth more the paper they’re printed on. But only the most unscrupulous or confused company would take advantage of the situation and invalidate its coupons.

I found the entertainment book to be worthless crap. I bought the Long Island edition last year and had a problem using quite a number of the coupons. The restaurants were either out of business or claimed they were not participating in the program even though the coupon was in the book. I finally just threw the book out as it was garbage.

I'm not surprised....this year's book (Long Island edition) is full of coupons that I get for free from the companies directly. Gone are the great coupons we've had in year's past. For example, I don't need to pay for a Children's Place 15% off coupon. I get those in my email weekly. I don't need to pay for a BOGO Whopper from Burger King. Those come in with my newspaper almost every week! The list goes on & on.

I wrote Entertainment to express my disappointment after receiving the book and got no response from anyone.

I have girls in two different schools. One did the Entertainment book and after looking at it we decided not to buy it (just wrote a check to the school). We wouldn't use most of the coupons and the ones we liked were only valid Mon - Thurs. I think the book cost $40. My other dd's school sells "Enjoy the City" books. They are only $20 and filled with BOGO free coupons with no day of the week restrictions. We've already made back our investment. Have your school check them out (google the name, the website will come up). We get the Grand Rapids one and it has a lot of lakeshore city coupons too (Muskegon, Holland, Grand Haven).

I agree! I got one because it went down to like $5 and I figured maybe I would make my money back by using just a couple coupons. I STILL have not found a way to use any of the coupons, because other deals I get elsewhere save me so much more money.

That is what we are going to do next year, it's that book!!

It was just a matter of time with all the coupon sites available now a days (Restaurant.com, Groupon, LivingSocial, etc.) Entertainment was having problems before these sites opened. There was no way they were going to survive the current onslaught of deals.

I have not bought one for two years.

There were no coupons in the one for here that were worth paying for.

It is a shame as we used to use a lot of coupons out of that book.

I agree with you. We used to buy it every year. We hadn't bought one for many, many years. I got one last year through school and found most places would not honor the coupons or had gone out of business. One restaurant had gone out of business many years ago and was still listed.

I have bought them for years, and now just this year, was turned away from 2 places and told that they never authorized it and they couldn't take the coupons? I also noticed that all of the really good places that I actually used are no longer in there. So, this was going to be the last one for me anyways

I just bought one last week and I got an e-mail that said it shipped. I wonder if I should just contact my cc company. Returning it will probably not get me a refund....
