Advertising Industry Consolidates
Many members have enquired about the diminishing number of
"visit and earn" banners over the past few weeks.
The Internet advertising industry is going through a
consolidation for the second time. The first was the CPM (Cost
per 1,000 impressions), and its failure favored the CPC (Cost
per click), aka Pay-for-Click. Now the CPC model is falling
apart and the merchants are adopting a CPA (Cost per Action)
model, aka Pay-for-Result (Lead or Sales). Merchants are
demanding, "quality traffic" to their sites. That is the traffic
that generates sales, (not just eye-balling). In fact, one of
the leading affiliate management companies that provides the
bulk of CPC banners will be terminating CPC programs
altogether as of 7/1/01. Incentive sites will be forced to
eliminate their Pay-for-Click programs.
New Tiered System Launch
In response to this, we are instituting a tiered system that
awards bonus points for frequent shoppers. Based on a
member's total shopping amount, members become eligible for
additional points over and above their baseline points. The
more shopping, the greater the benefit. We will soon announce
this tiered system to our members. "
I wonder what this means to many of our programs in general. That sentence about "one of the leading affiliate management companies that provides the bulk of CPC banners will be terminating CPC programs altogether as of 7/1/01" is bugging me now.
