Yes, this is a rant and rave!

1st let me say that my family, friends and I love Boma. The food as far as buffets go is fabulous. Let me preface this by saying that we never do the dining plan.

Saturday night, a friend and her 10 year old and I with my 12 year old went to dinner there. At the end of the meal the bill comes and they charged the four of us the Adult $28.99 buffet fee. Yes, I know, after 9 years of age, at Disney your an Adult and even at the restaurants.

The boys each had a small slice of prime rib (3 ounces), some rice and two bite size pastries. All this for $28.99 a piece, what a rip off, I won't eat there again, we ate there last year and they didn't charge us this. I complained and got absolutely no where but back to my room, torked off!

We would have been better off at Jiko!

Well, you knew the posted prices when you went there, and you knew the children would be charged as "adults" so I don't understand what your problem is. If I went there and only ate a small amount because I'm on a diet, I wouldn't expect them to lower my price. :confused3

Not exactly sure what your point is. Knowing that your kids will be charged the adult price you either decide that taking them there and paying almost $30 per person is worth it or not. Were you expecting Disney to offer a discount because they ate so little, or not charge them at all or what?

I'm afraid I have to agree with the previous poster. It was nice of them to bend the rules for you last time I suppose.. but if you went there with the intent of that happening again.. well that's your fault.
It's one thing being outraged if you didn't know the price before hand (but still your responsibility to check the menu). But you knew and are mad they made you pay what we all have to pay for our over 9 children.:confused3

DID YOU FAIL TO READ MY POST! I was there Jun 08 and in Nov 07 and the boys were past 9 then! My point is that there should be a deliniation between the cost of food that a 9 year old would eat and a 16 year old and more to the pooint a full fledge adult. If you all think it's reasonable to charge kids $28.99 for a meal then more power to you, I do not.

I did not ask them to bend the rules, it was done by the servers on their own!

Sorry, in my rant i failed to mention that we go there several times a year!

You would have been charged close to that price at any buffet at WDW, only Trails End is noticably less. So this isn't so much a Boma issue as a dinner buffet was not a great value for those young people. Next time you consider going they'll likely be inhaling food so it'll average out for you.

Last year the child was under 10yo and was eligible for the child price. Also if you stay onsite this is yet another reason to do the DP. With the DP it would have been a TS credit and you wouldn't have stressed over the "price".

I just saw your previous post. No need to get mad at us posters. If they undercharged you last year, you got pixie dust. Be grateful that you got some magic last year, rather than lament it didn't happen for you twice.

Yes, we read your post. And we don't agree.
You knew what it cost.. you were just hoping to get a break on the price.. and got mad when you didn't.
They have to set the limit somewhere.. and short of charging a fee per bite it would never seem completely fair to anyone.

Based on the assertion that the servers "bent the rules" for you last time, the best response is probably to state that at Walt Disney World, one should most likely not expect to have the rules "bent" for them on every occasion.

Yes, obviously in June they made the same mistake! It does not alter my point of view that I think it's unreasonable to charge a 10 year old the same price as an adult for food. That goes for park admission as well! You can't fight city hall but you can express that you're displeased and forwarn others that this may happen or may not happen to them depending on which server you get!

I have to agree with the rest of the posters. Disney did not do anything wrong, since the prices are posted.

As the parent of a child that has just entered the 10 & older category, I am choosing to not frequent the buffets at WDW much on our next trip. I agree that the price is way too high for what some kids eat (mine would most likely eat fruit, yogurt and pasta -- no meat). We are planning to dine at Boma, however, because we like it so much.

At this age, I think that dining a-la-carte is a better deal.

But I dont agree that you were mistreated by your server charging you the stated amount of each meal. I am sorry that this ruined your dinner.

My DD is 18 and is a very small eater... in many cases she would just have a bowl of rice... I pay full price for her..... do I like it ...NO....do I understand that the meal is XXX amount of dollars regardless of how much she eats...YES...

Thank you for sharing your experience.

As you know, it is what it is. Disney sets the rules, you have the choice of going or not going. You are charged the same price if you gorge or nibble.

Hope the rest of your trip is better

I think it's unreasonable to charge a 10 year old the same price as an adult for food.

You are absolutely entitled to have this opinion and even share it on DIS. However, it seems unfair to "blame" BOMA. The restaurant is no way at fault here and the pricing is clearly communicated.

Age limits are set for a lot of things.

Why is a irresponsible 20 year and 364 day old person all of a sudden the next day be allowed to drink? That's a law in most (if not all states).

Or the Constitution allows another irresponsible 17 year and 364 day old person to wait on more day and then be able to vote.

Buying tobacco products and driving are also age limited.

It's not Disney's fault that the kids didn't eat enough to justify the price. Just like it's not the government's fault if a bunch of uneducated just turned 18 year old vote in this election.

Would never have occurred to me to forwarn anyone that they might be charged the posted price for a buffet regardless of the amount of food they eat.

If that's an issue, best advice I can give anyone with this problem at WDW is that they should consider a la carte restaurants rather than buffets, not to expect that the buffet will charge less.
