well, I was doing the happy dance until I heard about tropical storm gabriel, I live in new york and my flight is scheduled for sunday, I have travel protection insurance purchased through disney, when is the best time to cancel trip? :sad1: :sad2:

I would assume the sooner the better. I wouldn't wait past Thursday or Friday. Also, rebook as soon as possible to get your first choice. Sorry about your trip!

Have you READ that policy? does it say you can cancel if there is a storm coming or if your flights etc. are cancelled because of it? Usually it is the later.

Currently, there is no prediction that a TS is heading toward Florida.

As Mom2Evie said, there are currently no predictions that a TS is heading towards Florida. In fact, the ONLY named Tropical Storm right now is Henriette and that's on the other side of the country. Right now there is a non-tropical low pressure system (meaning it's not yet even a tropical depression), and right now "Gabrielle" is the next name to be used for a storm in the Atlantic, but that name will not be used until a tropical depression becomes a tropical storm...which currently it has not. The only currently named tropical depression is Felix and that's because Felix was named once it became a tropical storm. Here is what weather.com is saying about what's brewing right now:
"In the Atlantic, an area of low pressure about 400 miles WSW of Bermuda has not strengthened any today. An Air Force Hurricane Hunter plane investigated the system Wednesday afternoon and confirmed that it is still a non-tropical low. However, the system has the potential to develop into a tropical or subtropical storm over the next day or two and push back toward the southeast coast of the U. S."

I personally would not cancel unless I knew for certain that my flight would be affected by it. Read your travel insurance policy carefully to make sure you know what the requirements/stipulations are in the event that you do need to cancel.

I didn't realize it was named yet- but if it helps I'll send all the thoughts of this 'storm' straight to NC- we need the rain soooooooooo bad- I'm sure you can fly around it, if need be. Trust me, just about everyone is hoping it'll move back to NC and give us rain!!!! Florida has had enough- I should know, the 3 nights of our trip was NOTHING but rain 2 weeks ago. :headache:

well right now it is heading up the east coast, I'm assuming that would delay or cancel flights going south, please correct me if I'm wrong....I really want to be wrong about this.:confused3 :confused3 :confused3

I'm here in beautiful NC (near Raleigh) and tonight they said IF the storm got close to us it would likely brush by the coastal areas and move back out to sea fairly quickly. The models shown tonight indicated it would be moving up north.

I would be constanly checking weather.com for more information.

You need to contact your airline about possible delays or cancellations...we can't answer that for you since that is up to them.

Wow, don't cancel yet!

I did not cancel, the storm is not affecting my flight to florida, as I originally thought, well we are departing tomorrow at 8am and although it will probaly rain everyday, I will be happy to be at the happiest place on earth!
I want to thank everyone for their advice and wish all of you the best on your next disney vacation and because we are all disboard junkies there will always be another disney vacation for us.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
