NO: Lights coming back on!

If it gives the residents hope, and a sense of forward movement, then yes, it is a beautiful thing. The water is receding, the power is gradually being restored, and cell phones are intermittently working again.

I just got back from Slidell Monday night...when we got down there Sunday morning, there was no power in the hospital where we were staying. When it came back on late Sunday night, you would have thought the power company had cured cancer, the relief and gratitude and excitement that was expressed. With electricity, people can boil their water to drink. People can eat something besides non-perishables. People can use air conditioning for the first time in a week. Patients on ventilators don't have to be hand-bagged.

So yes, it is a beautiful thing. Electricity being restored is one of the first steps on the road back from the total destruction that we've witnessed.

The company I work for specializies in sales for manufacturers of products for the electric power utility marketplace in the southern United States. We have been putting in long evenings and worked over the holiday weekend to get the equipment needed to restore power. We are on call 24/7 since a few days before the storm hit which is typical for us during the hurricane season.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Entergy and the Southern Company have really been on top of this since the get go and are more than prepared to get power back online once they can get back into the cities. I also know that power company crews from all over the U.S. are already down there working and more are geared up and ready to go. :cheer2:

You would think everyone won the lottery around here with power coming back up. It is a huge thing! Just puts things we take for granted more in perspective.

On a cam, I've watched cars stopping at a traffic light in the CBD. It's only going to get better now in Uptown. :)

Yep--power restoration is a gorgeous sight!

Especially when it means your in-laws, uncle-in-law, grandmother-in-law, three cats and two dogs who have been rotating through your house leave, and everyone's lives start returning to somewhat normal. lol.
Really, I love and adore them all, but whew!!!
