Okay, looks like we will most likely have the LAP rotation. My concern is that I would rather be in Lumiere's on formal night and Parrot Cay on tropical night. Makes sense.

Can anyone tell me, from first hand experience, if I'm putting too much emphasis on the dining room rotation?

I thought the same thing back in Sept. On the our last Eastern we were in Luminaires for formal night and and PC for Tropcial night. Wewanted the same for the Western. Well, we were in PC for formal and Luminaires for Tropical and did not know the difference. We still had a ball and the evenings were perfection.
Have a great trip,
Russ

Yes, we will have three teens and figure it will probably be the LAP rotation.

I think the same thing as you trampslady. It seems that the "older" crowd should be in the less casual resturant on formal night. I wonder why they do this?

I'm not going to change my rotation though, whatever it is. Too much hastle and too many other things to do the first day.

I've been in every rotation possible and it doesn't matter one iota what restaurant you are in each night. :)

The only thing that matters to me is the dining SEATING TIME I get, not the restaurant. I wouldn't worry about it at all, as long as you are in the seating that you prefer. :)

My guess is that they do this because it puts the "older" crowd in Lumière's three times during the week, and it is the restaurant for which you're supposed to dress up. Of course, they've since relaxed the dress code on the first night of the cruise, and have the tropical night on the second go-round on Tuesday.

I agree that it doesn't really matter which restaurant you're in for which night. I think it is definitely not worth the hassle of trying to change your rotation once on board.

I had a 3 yr old DD (and I'm in my 20's) and we had the LAP roation. Intersting:smooth:

We wanted to be in Luminere's the second formal night as it was my birthday and our tablemates 50th anniversery. (we thought that would be so much nicer for the captian's gala than parrot cay) well I wish we had stayed on our regular rotation, although we got a great table for the night and EXCELLENT servers it was a very different atmoshere with many many crying young children. Where you are on the different nights really does not matter as much as the climate of who you are with . Relax and enjoy !:)

Thanks for the valuable input. Question-doesn't that mean that my hubby will end up in a jacket or suit about every night except tropical night?

FWIW...we had the PLAP rotation on the 7 day which meant we were in Parrot Cay on Formal night and Animators on semi formal and it didn't matter one iota. As soon as men got into the dining room their jackets were hanging on the back of their chairs!:)

We also noticed a fair amount of people dressed very informally on formal night, including one lovely gentlemen (read:sarcasm) in shorts and sandals. Disney did not deny them into the dining room. That said: if your husband feels he doesn't want to wear a jacket one night, it won't be frowned upon. Or if he wears it and removes it once he is in the restraunt, that won't be a big deal either. Relax and have fun...you're on vacation!:)

With the LAP rotation? No, it doesn't. On the first night, suggested dress is casual in all restaurants (except Palo), as there is a chance your luggage might not have made it to your room by dinner time. On the second Lumière's night, it will be tropical night, so he won't have to dress up. The only night, other than the formal nights, that he'll have to wear a jacket is Friday. He will not have to dress up on Saturday, Monday (Parrot Cay), Tuesday (Tropical), and Wednesday (Animator's Palate). Really no different than the other rotations.

In August on the Western we had the 3 night rotation in Luminere and we had 2 kids with 7 and 8. I actually did not have enough casual clothes along because the first night there was casual, tropical night was casual again, and the last there wa again casual. My husband did not wear his sport coat there at all. I really wish your dinning rotation was listed on you docs, would cut out some packing. I'm not brave enough to assume I will have a certain rotation.

I'm confused then. My rotation chart shows that we will be in Lumiere's on Saturday, Tuesday, and Friday. That means dress coat on Tuesday which shows to be a casual night. My chart shows tropical night in Animator's Palate, and then last night is back in Lumiere's with Small World theme which is casual....dress coat again.

It's really not that big of a deal but I was just trying to figure out which rotation would be best for dress code matching the dining room.

From what I can tell from the chart, it looks like we will be able to dress casual the first night because of the luggage situation and then...

Looks like two nights of jacket that would otherwise not be needed (Tuesday and Friday are both casual nights but on LAP you are in Lumiere's which suggests jacket) . Actually, four if you consider that if you were in Lumiere's on APL rotation then you would only be dressing up on the formal and semi-formal nights because they coinside with the nights you are in Lumiere's. A dress coat would not be needed for any other night, as the other dining rooms do not require a jacket.
Am I crazy?

Are you on the western route? My info was based on the eastern, where Tuesday is tropical night. I've not been on the western, so if Wednesday is a themed night on that itinerary, than yes, I would think he'd have to wear coat and tie on Tuesday at Lumière's.

Bear in mind that you don't have to eat in the dining room every night, if dressing up is something you don't want to do. There are plenty of other options.

Looking at the chart for the eastern itinerary my family will probably have APLAPLA, which is formal in parot cay, casual in Lumiere's, and then semi formal in Lumiere's.

If this is the case, do I need to plan on my family, 3 boys and hubby, wearing jackets and dress shirts 3 nights instead of 2? Would it be complete tacky if my boys and husband wore khaki's and golf shirts in Lumiere's on casual night, after all it is called casual night. Seems like DCL is making this way more complicated than it needs to be. If the brochure says you have one formal night, one semi formal night, one tropical and 4 casual, isn't that what you should pack for? Especially if they don't tell you ahead of time what your dining rotation is.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

kajohn,

On the eastern, your rotation, assuming APL, should be this:

Saturday - Animator's, casual
Sunday - Parrot Cay, formal
Monday - Lumière's, jacket recommended
Tuesday - Animator's, tropical
Wednesday - Parrot, casual
Thursday - Lumière's, semi-formal
Friday - Animator's, casual

There's really no night called "casual night". On each day, there is a suggested dress for each restaurant, which will be noted in the daily schedules (Personal Navigator). The nights with no theme will be casual in Parrot Cay and Animator's, with "jacket recommended" in Lumière's.

It's really not all that big a deal. I usually bring a suit for the formal nights (I stopped bothering with a tux, as most people don't wear them), and another jacket to wear at Lumière's and at Palo.

Even so, there are plenty of people who go casual regardless of the suggested dress, and you won't be turned away.

Can you get your rotation by calling in advance? We sail this Saturday (1/25). Will DCL be able to tell us?

I had the LAP rotation in November (the Western cruise right before people got sick).

All the information I had said jackets were required for Lumiere's. To my surprise, when we got the Personal Navigators for each day, the suggested attire for Lumiere's was casual.

My brother wore his jacket on semi-formal and formal nights and to Palo's.

He almost didn't have enough casual attire since he was expecting to be in a jacket every night.

I wish we had known this before our trip because we would have packed differently. We brought way too many formal outfits and not enough casual for dinner.

Have a good day.
